My Type-A/OCD personality makes me a natural crazy listmaker, so when work goes into overload, my lists go into overdrive. I always carry a notebook with my work project to-do list, plus daily stickies with priorities for each day - that is the standard. There's just something really satisfying about crossing out something that has been completed, it's like striking out the worry of it from my brain - there must be other listmakers that understand.
However when the schedules get crazy, I not only keep my regular projects list and daily stickies, but I employ a written out hour-by-hour schedule, reminders on my Blackberry calendar, plus about a million loose hotel-provided note pad pages that get updated and tossed about around every 30 minutes. I can't trust my brain to remember things so I become a tree killer. That and pretty much everything that is actually about me or my life usually gets tossed to the side.
So when I came home Friday afternoon, what did I do? The one time I felt like I needed all week. Took a nap! And Saturday afternoon? Took a nap. There's nothing like rewarding myself with some serious snooze time on the couch with the TV on low, the pup snuggled down and the sun still streaming in.
When you've got too much on your plate and not enough hours in the day, how do you prioritize? And how do you keep yourself sane despite the stress?

ReplyDeleteYou're looking minty fresh.

Haha, aw, thanks, Natasha!
DeleteI am an obsessive list maker. Outlook and Google Calendar help me maintain the mess.

Ooh, Google Calendar. I didn't even know about that ... not sure if it'll be a good or bad thing if I look that up.
DeleteNo wonder haven't seen you blog for the last little while. Taking naps, eating stuff that you normally wouldn't allow yourself to eat, retail therapy(if you are super busy, browse online!!) always make a stressful day go so much easier.
ReplyDeleteLove your mint color dress. So cute with the necklace and belt.
Oh yes, online browsing is my friend. Perfect to help me doze off on those evenings where I don't have the brain power to form together actual thoughts but can still peruse pretty things!
DeleteI definitely understand the value of lists, and the joy of crossing off. I might not take it to the extreme, but there is so much comfort in knowing what is written can not be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteLoving your mint dress!
Chic on the Cheap
I can't be trusted to remember anything! so I need to make the lists. Otherwise I will literally lose sleep worrying over stuff that I may forget.
DeleteThat mint dress is darling on you, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a list maker and always carry around my planner wherever I go. Luckily for me my job as a social worker is not something I have to take home with me and I can de-stress once the workday is done.

That's one thing I need to learn to do - know when to quit working!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous dress Lisa! I love this color on you so much! And I am a TOTAL listmaker and sticky note hoarder. Everyone at my office knows not to ask me to do anything until and unless I have a notepad in my hand. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can't be trusted to get anything right unless I write it down post haste!

ReplyDeleteWhoops! I am a total list maker, too. I must have it written on paper and enjoy a great deal of satisfaction crossing things off thought te day. I reward myself by making a new list!
ReplyDeleteI hate those days when I don't cross off as many line items that I want to, it makes me feel like I wasted a day!
Deletelove love love! i really want a mint colored blouse or shirt - i don't have one yet and i think its the one shade of green i can actually wear.
ReplyDeletelaurafornerphotography.blogspot.com
Girl, I think you would look fantastic in all sorts of green. I can envision you rocking some awesome saturated emerald!
DeleteWow that tornado warning sounds really scary! That color looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteOf course as soon as the warning went off, all the locals started heading out because they knew what to do - the rest of us just stood around for like dummies going "for realz?!"
DeleteAs for dealing with loads of tasks, I try to take steps one by one and solve problems on a on-going basis. Though it depends in case if some issues are urgent. The dress you wear is sooo nice! It looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteP.S. The first comment I post there, he he =)
Thanks for commenting!
DeleteI am so in love with these colors! You look beautiful! I have an older skirt this color and I almost got rid of it last season, LOL!
ReplyDeletePerfect excuse to not get rid of anything - everything old becomes fashionable again!
DeleteGreat outfit -- the necklace and belt really add something special to the dress. :) I love lists, too ... and if I accomplish something that wasn't on the original list, I write it in and then immediately cross it off. Instant gratification! :)
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy, but I get peeved a bit when I do something that wasn't originally on my list ... but I do totally add it my list!
Deletei need you to come prioritize and schedule my life. i tried to write a schedule for myself the other day and still ended up doing things completely different and out of order. some of the tasks for the next day happened that day, and some of that day's tasks got blown off. oye vey. i'm pretty much your worst nightmare! ---- all that aside, i really love this dress! the color is gorgeous and the necklace you have paired with it is so cool! it almost looks to have a rose gold coloring to it. so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHahah, hey, whatever works! I can't live without list but BF works just fine sans lists - still manages to get his job done and make it home each night!
DeleteI just LOVE your shoes, and am glad you are back!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a constant list maker...and I seem to keep them everywhere as well. I have a notebook in a purse to write down all my random thoughts, ideas, and must-do's, and use on-line calendars as well! I wonder if I don't get anything done because I have too many reminders!!!
Oh goodness, I don't handle stress very well. I've started going on early morning walks where i mentally plan out my day and I find that really helps.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you were in Texas during the tornadoes! I'm glad to see you're ok.
I'm definitely the same, especially when I'm busy. I'll write down all the things I have to do from making sure I wash my dishes to my assignments.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great color on you and I like the shirt inside!
Welcome home Lisa!! I'm happy to hear you got to take several naps....you sure deserve it!! The wintergreen dress looks beautiful on you. I love the necklace you paired with it too!!
ReplyDeleteAnother list maker here! U look great in mint!
ReplyDeleteI was in Dallas on Sunday and Monday last week, but flew back on Monday night. On Monday afternoon my boss scolded me for not staying over Monday night, but ha - the joke was on him as he did so and his Tuesday flight was canceled. I'm so glad to live in a place where all we have to worry about are earthquakes.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big time list maker. In the tech field I take a lot of ribbing about carrying a notepad, but I think differently when writing longhand than when using a keyboard. Don't know why.
I like how you dressed up the dress with a happy flash of white layered beneath. It looks very fresh!
They were still cancelling AA flights out of DFW later in the week because of aircraft damage - you got out just in time!
DeleteThat color is beautiful with your coloring! Too bad it's due to work that caused you to be temporarily MIA. You sound like my husby, he's always saying he has to make a note and writes everything down.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to snuggle down with your pup for some serious snooze. It's a just reward!
Yay! You're back. What an experience, glad the tornado didn't land on you. I'm beginning to really like mint you look terrific. I like writing things down but Hubby is always saying type it on your iPhone notes, it's not the same. I do take pics of things that I need reminders of.
ReplyDeleteI need to have something right in front of me or I am likely to forget it - I'm with you, for some reason, typing it up on a smart phone is not the same!
Deleteohhh love the sorbet green! such a pretty and unusual color love it paired with those python pumps!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the green dress and your shoes are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove the color of that dress - it looks so pretty on you!

Hey Lisa...I'm glad that you are back and that you are safe from random tornados. That must have been a scary experience. I really like your look today. I like how you took a dress that looks so casual and made it look dressy. I would have never thought to do this. I live by my own checklists...especially for work and I also kill a lot of trees. One of the ways that I deal with my stress is running/working out...I would go insane if I didn't.
ReplyDeleteI love the winter green and the Anthro necklace. Your description of your list-keeping made *me* want to take a nap :)
