A Worthy Post

Here are some previous outfits that didn't make it to regular blog post rotation. Sometimes I have outfit pics that pile up because I didn't have the time for a "proper" blog shoot and aren't thrilled about the pics or I may have had an outfit but zero thoughts in my head that particular day. Or I may not consider the outfit completely worthy of a solo post because it is borderline on the meh side.

I used to be set on this being a daily "what I wear" type blog and was going to post outfits daily regardless. But that takes all the fun out of things. I don't want to blog like it's my job, plus some days my outfits just don't feel super-exciting. No one wants to see me in jeans and a sweatshirt. So why put myself (and you gals) through all that?

I know, this is just a hobby and I am free to post whatever the heck I want, but I figure if an outfit is boring me, chances are it'll bore you as well. I have to get dressed every day and I like fashion, so why not make it fun and do something interesting? And if we read each other's blogs for fashionable inspiration, why would I want to share something I don't consider all that fashionable or inspirational? Oh, you wore the exact same outfit again today that you did last Monday? Ground-breaking. So here's a medley of previous outfits, plus a pseudo try-on outfit that never made it out of the house.

How do you determine when an outfit is blog post worthy?

  1. all of those looks are super cute! Geez, if you think those are boring outfits, I would hate for you to see what I wear on the days I don`t post an outfit!

    1. You should see what I change into after I come home from work! I think last night I wore a sweatshirt with dogs on them (yes, totally), leggings and Uggs!

  2. I love all of your outfits but especially the first one, feels so easy, springy and fresh. I can understand how sometimes you think the outfit is not special enough for a post, but on the other hand, I noticed that some supposedly uninspired outfits get high marks from readers, maybe because they are easier to wear and easier to recreate.

    1. Completely agree. There have been some outfits I was borderline about posting in the past, but then when I did post them, gals were crazy about the combo. Shows how much I think I know!

  3. I like you casual! It's a nice change. :) I only post outfits that aren't dupes of ones I've already worn (on my blog) and if I feel like the outfit looks as good in pix as I thought it did in person. LOL :)

  4. I like ALL of these outfits, and definitely think they are all "blog worthy"! I think style blogging is about just that--personal style, which I think means every day style. That said, I hardly ever do outfit posts because that's just not my thing (and my closet/budget wouldn't support it!), but I do love to see a range on style blogs of comfy, casual, dressy, etc.

  5. I actually love these outfits, not boring at all! I'm glad you posted them. The first one is adorable... you look cute in everything! :)

  6. The first is adorable, i would definitely have blogged that!

Usually my biggest factor in blogworhtyness is the quality of the photos - if they feel 'meh' or look boring they often slip away into oblivion.

    1. I'm a terrible photographer with a not-so-special camera, so the quality of my pics is always and issue! I recently upgraded but I haven't taken any outfit pics with it yet, I'm still trying to figure it out and get used to it!

  7. I love that striped dress and blazer look! I like seeing some of these other outfits because they're a bit more casual than what you normally blog so it's a nice little change! I have favorite items that I seem to constantly wear and I won't blog those so my readers don't think I only own a few shirts :)

  9. OMGosh these are very cute outfits Lisa! I really love the first and the last ones the best! I share outfits that I am comfortable in or ones that I want to ask how to make them better. It also, for me, depends on if I get the 15 minutes of sunlight to actually take my pictures in the first place!

    1. I know - I am so glad the days are getting longer. There were a couple of times where I was fighting the lack of natural light and had to rig some stuff with lamps, etc. It's enough work just to make sure I don't have a stupid look on my face, haha!

  10. my favorite outfit is the first one,it is just perfect.
i really like that your outfits often give me ideas to recreate them.

  11. Lisa, I love the first outfit! Definitely blog post worthy. I try to take pictures most days during the week, but there are times that they don't make it to my blog either because I don't feel exceptional in them! My weekend gear is of course much less exceptional.....

  12. I used to do OOTDs and try to post my outfit everyday, but it became waaaay too much for me. Now I just do it when I have the chance or "when the mood hits me" i suppose. Plus, I have to admit, it got weird for me to open my iphoto and find so many photos of me :/ I don't know if any other fashion blogger feels the same way though.

    1. Haha, I feel that way when I open my flickr account and all I see are pages and pages of Me Me Me! Who thinks I'm so special? I do! (but heck, that's OK too!)

  13. I think the red stripes + gray is an inspired look. Really like the touch of turquoise you added too. Thanks for giving us a peek at your more casual outfits! :)

  17. I love all of your looks! I am always using your blog for inspiration! So, I have a related question for you about your first look...I have a striped dress that is a bit more structured than the one in look 1 so its shape is work appropriate but for some reason the stripes make it seem casual to me. Would you ever consider wearing a striped dress to a business casual work environment?? I'd love your opinion!

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Tami - I definitely think a striped dress could be work-appropriate. I guess it would depend on the fit, material, colors and length though - I had a striped Banana Republic dress (worn here: http://respecttheshoes.blogspot.com/2010/08/giving-boot.html) that was knit, but the colors, fit and length were more demure, so I never thought twice about wearing it to the office. Throw on a blazer, I'd be ready for a meeting too. The one I'm wearing above is a tee material and I think a more casual color combo, so I'd only wear that to work if I was in a pretty laidback environment. I hope this helps a little, thanks for your question!

  18. It's interesting isn't it, how what we deem "blog worthy" may be completely different from what readers would think? Everyone's opinions are so different. When I'm excited about an outfit, (whether it's a new item, an interesting pairing, etc) I just know that I need to write up a post. It makes me happy so at the end of the day that's all that matters :) I'm glad you dug out these outfits for us in a compilation post though -- I'm especially loving the first outfit.

  28. Lisa I actually heart all the pictures and think their all blog worthy!! I love the third dress on you...it's so cute!! But I totally get it when you said that blogging is not your job and some days your outfit doesn't feel super exciting. Sometimes I take photo's, upload them and think ughhh....this looks horrible.

All you pics are cute though!! I'm happy you shared them with us!!

  30. I do love your striped and polka-dot outfits. They are adorable! I tend to post what I wear daily, but there are a few of the boring outfits I skip. Or if the photo ends up being really terrible, I'll scrap it.
