I've always had an affinity for slightly trashy TV, so when reality television became popular a few years ago, it was right up my alley. Case in point, I was a huge fan of the original Girls Next Door - oh Bridget, Holly, Kendra, I miss your good-natured PlayBoy bunny ways.
Watching real people and their over-the-top drama is a nice break from reality for me. Plus if it involves well-kept women, even better, because I can see what they're wearing. So it's no wonder than Mondays have become my new favorite evening for TV.
I usually start things out with my all-time favorite Housewife-turned-mogul Bethenny Frankel. She's borderline annoying and got a ton of personal issues, but she's hilarious and driven and a breath of fresh air from the regular played out random Real Housewife drama.
The entree is a course of fashion and humor mixed in for Brad Goreski - did you ladies see Monday night's episode? A Les Miserables-theme flash mob as an anniversary surprise? Oh my word, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to giggle with glee or fight the lump in my throat over the thought that so many people cared that much for him. I adore Brad, he makes bow ties, neon shorts and constant tears of joy for weekdays work.
The commercial breaks are taken up by flipping over to the food-themed shows on the Travel Channel - my neverfails, Bourdain and Zimmern.
Then to top the evening off, some glammed out wine-throwing drama from the Basketball Wives. Nothing like Louboutin-clad women beotch slapping it out in posh night clubs. It's completely drama for drama's sake, but at least they're pretty to look at.
What are your guilty pleasure shows?
Sweater: Guinevere by Anthropologie roaming ruffles (worn here - sim, plain, pricey, pink)
Top: Gillian & O'Malley by Target striped cami (worn here - sim, strappy)
Skirt: Zara elastic-waist (worn here - sim, sim, pricey, pricey)
Bracelet: J.Crew golden stripe (worn here - sim, sim)
Earrings: Target (sim, sim, sim)
Shoes: Etienne Aigner ethel (worn here - sim)

Love your stripe skirt and your ruffles. So damn cute!!
ReplyDeleteI love watching reality shows too. Big fan of the real housewives(yes, all of them, but the Beverly Hills and New Jersey ones are my favs), Giuliana and Bill(Rancic), Kadashians, Rachel Zoe etc. The list is long and it's just so interesting.
Oh yes, Rachel Zoe - I d i e.
DeleteLove your outfit and you're making me really want a pair of leopard pumps!
ReplyDeleteI watch the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Orange County, although OC is starting to annoy me. I really liked DC too. I agree with you about enjoying the "glam." I tease DH and say "that's how I'm supposed to be dressed."
I refuse to watch Jersey Shore or anything of that raunchiness, but that's the stuff my husband loves. I just can't watch a show where every single person is stupid!
I have to admit it, but I was addicted to Jersey Shore when it first came out. The people on it were cheesy but it seemed like they knew it and were fine it and were out to have fun. I thought it was hilarious.
DeleteI am over it now, though. The people are getting too "big" and I'm getting tired of the bickering, and the same ole same ole. It can't always be summer at the beach and partying at Karma, you know?
I simply love this outfit. It doesn't even look like a skirt and top, instead it looks like a dress with a sweater. Nice..
ReplyDeleteLove the bright cardigan! So, I love mondays...but I love watching Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie and than Castle....total girly dramas. Such a nice break from a back to the grind of life Monday.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is so cute! At first, I mistakened the top and skirt for dress. The cardigan adds a nice drop of color.
ReplyDeleteI've seen bits of Real Housewives and Basketball wives.. As far as reality shows go, I have to admit, Jersey Shore is a guilty pleasure even though it's getting tiring to watch the same drama over and over. The show was a lot better in the earlier seasons. I watched The Hills and Laguna Beach too. They killed my brain cells!
I agree with you on Jersey Shore. It used to be way more carefree and funny. Now it just seems played out and repetitive!
DeleteI watch my fair share of reality TV too, but I'm more prone to watch Survivor and Amazing Race. I like the travel aspect, and the competitions and the challenges. I've never gotten into the Housewives series (no judgement), but I do think there is something really endearing about Bethenny. Happy Watching!

I am absolutely adoring your cardigan - very chic! xo
ReplyDeleteI love the bright punchy color, classic stripes and twist of leopard!
ReplyDeleteI've managed to wean myself from most of my trashy tv addiction. I still watch an occasional episode of Bethenny here and there, but Basketball Wives is my guilty pleasure! No matter how hard I try I just can't quit them!
Evelyn's my fave, though I would not wanna get into a fight with her. And I so want to start using the word "bourgie."
DeleteI'm a reality tv addict for sure! I loooove bethenny too!
ReplyDeletehaha, love the black, white & red combo :)
OMG I LOVE BETHENNY FRANKEL! I used to watch NYC Housewives, but when she left it all went downhill. Currently, my guilty pleasure is Jerseylicious (back on btw) and I loves it so. I also love your cardigan and dress m'dear!
ReplyDeleteOh Jerseylicious - Olivia!!!!!
DeleteThis outfit fooled me because I could've sworn it was a dress till I read that it's a top and skirt! I love the navy and red combo with the little hint of leopard!
ReplyDeleteMonday nights are bad because there's so much good tv on that even with 2 DVRs I can't watch it all! I love Bethenny and all the Housewives series. You name the reality tv show, I probably watch it :)

The Tiny Heart
Good thing we don't know each other in real life - we'd be so unproductive together, haha!
DeleteI love Hoarders and Intervention. Clearly I like shows about people triumphing over some sort of mental illness. My new current obsession is Doomsday Preppers on National Geographic. The people featured actually think the world is ending. One woman is positive the government is going to take over very shortly and insists that what she'll need are guns and 500lbs of boiled chicken in jars. I like my reality TV with a side of crazy.

Argh, for some reason our local cable network doesn't get NatGeo (it's a "premium" channel, wah!) and I've heard about that show from tons of people. I need to give those guys a call because BF's mom is probably perfect to be on that show. That women MREs saved up literally to feed an army. And I can't make fun of her too much, because if stuff goes bad, I'm going to her house! ;o)
DeleteThat dress is so cute! My current guilty pleasure show is definitely....Teen Mom. Not very glamorous, but oh god so entertaining.
ReplyDelete..hoarders. hahaaa.
ReplyDeletelove the skirt!
I can't watch Hoarders because I already feel like I am living through my own personal episode of "Hoarders: the early years" thanks to the BF, haha!
Deletei'm also a reality tv show junkie. Love all the housewives too but one of my faves is big brother. can't wait until summer when it starts up again.
ReplyDeleteLol, loved your descriptions of your guilty pleasures. I don't watch any of the ones mentioned but now I'm tempted ;) I think I'm still stuck in my teenage years because CW and ABC Family shows are the ones I watch night after night. Oh wasn't life so much easier back when we were kids :)
ReplyDeleteI remember watching Saved by the Bell and the original 90210 when I was growing up and those kids sure didn't have the same problems the kids on today's TV shows do!
DeleteLove the colors and pattern mixing going here in your cute outfit. Sigh, I so need a pair of leopard pumps.
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to tell you how much tv I watch, trash or otherwise, lol. I've gotten to the point where the drama is a bit to manufactures for me, but if it is on tv while I'm flipping through, I'll sit and watch. I watch the Housewives on Bravo and Basketball Wives on VH1. Give me pretty fashion and I'll be there.
I know, I actually click away when all it becomes is screaming at each other, but I sure do like watching all the pretty fashions!
DeleteI love the ruffles on that red sweater :) Hmm I love watching My Kitchen Rules - you probably don't have that show in the US? and I always love The Amazing Race where all the couples are fighting to win a prize but yet you get to see all the different countries they travel to :)

Such a gorgeous cardigan Lisa! I love me some trashy TV myself. I gotta say Project Runway is my fave of the reality shows, but I'm also a sucker for American's Next Top Model (as long as I can mute it when Tyra is speaking :))

Bahaha! So glad I'm not alone loving trash. I don't have cable, and I'm thinking that might be a good thing, but I do love me some Bachelor/Bachelorette drama and.... Jersey Shore (on Hulu Plus). My favorite current shows are a bit better quality though. Survivor, Hart of Dixie, Revenge and Once Upon a Time. OH! and New Girl :) ---Anyway, love the orange with blue & white stripes today!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Once Upon a Time! The mayor lady is The Perfect evil queen!
Deletemy husband and i was obsessed with that show! and you're so right. she is amazing!

DeleteI loove your outfit! and these shows sound sooo nice!
ReplyDeleteBut to be honest: I only watch tv in the gym, and then only the news - and normally I'm always thinking after finishing my cardio: oh gosh, next time an audio book, tv is horrible...
unfortunately, you can't watch a dvd at the cross trainer ;-)
xxx Anita
Oh you lucky girl not to be addicted to reality TV!
DeleteOMG. I LOVE REALITY TV!! In fact, we got rid of our TV because I'm addicted to watching it. Only problem is that I've since discovered that I can watch any program online. I can find them all. I hadn't heard of the Basketball Wives. Yikes! I may have to add that one to the long list of reality shows I watch. I get totally bored watching sitcoms and dramas now. Eeks! Help!
ReplyDeleteI agree - I honestly don't really watch network TV or regular TV shows now (except for Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time ... ooh fantasy shows). I'm all about the reality TV!
DeleteActually, come to think of it, I think I can blame my addiction to reality TV on genetics. My mom is in her 70's, and loves reality TV as well. She watches all the Real Housewives shows! So it runs in the family.
DeleteMy mom told me that when I was a wee baby, she used to watch the TV show Dallas at night with my sleeping in her arms. As sweet as a memory it is for me, now I kind of get why I love the televised melodrama.
DeleteAnd I am busting out laughing here - your mom adores the Real Housewives too? Awesome!
Love your adorable skirt! Oh, I love the Bachelor and Real Housewives :)
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit, esp the skirt. I love project runway, top chef.

Oh, trashy shows are like food for my soul, lol! I can't get enough of The Real Housewives and I live off of E! News and The Soup. There are some less trashy shows like No Reservations and Top Chef that I enjoy as well.
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is so pretty - love the red cardi with it! And I totally enjoy some good reality TV as well :)

I'm loving your posts! Catching up on my blog reading, I love the printed Zara blazer, definitely going to have to get it. You look so chic, put together and loving all the color.
ReplyDeleteRed Soles and Red Wine
LISA, that top, skirt and sweater are simply fabulous!!! You look gorgeous girl. I love this ensemble. I don't watch much tv, but I love the Travel, History and Style channel. Anyway, you look as pretty as a flower.

I love this take on one of my favourite colour combos: Red, white, and black.
ReplyDeleteAll of the Real Housewives shows are my guilty pleasure. It's just so ridiculously good :)
I love this outfit today...the red sweater really pops. And as always you look amazing.
ReplyDeleteI watch a lot of dramas/comedies normally and I try not to get too addicted to too many reality television shows. Luckily for me I don't get Bravo. I guess some may say it's a good or a bad thing, but I don't really miss any of the Housewives of Anywhere shows, because I haven't seen any of them in several months. I try to watch shows like Project Runway (or anything fashion related), the Biggest Loser and the Amazing Race. And every now and then I watch the Kardashian franchise - I know. These shows are the real boob tube.
Ha Bethenny is my favorite reality tv star (besides everyone on Project Runway, but come on...). I think she's hilarious and is totally true to herself, even if it comes back to bite her.
