Second, Happy Lunar New Year to my asian peeps! Year of the dragon, rarrr!
Third, thanks to you ladies, for all your great skincare recs last week. I ended up skimping on the Clarisonic (I'm intrinsically cheap, I can't help it) and instead purchased the Olay cleansing brush, along with the cleanser. I also got a new anti-wrinkle daily moisturizer with SPF at the rec of a friend, and did splurge on a retinol serum, Replenix (serums are the thing, right?). I'm also going to start doing the hote towel before washing, cold towel after washing thing. I may or may not be getting more than I need right now, but I figure better earlier than too little too late?
I also thought that I need to act fast to take care of my skin because when I am on my own with it, I do it no favors. Case in point, blatantly picking at and squeezing a pimple last night and ending up with more angry than I intended (though, what else did I expect?) I am going to spare you ladies the sight of my heinous blemish and instead post these pics from an outfit I wore last week - though I may need to figure out how to use that Picasa touchup tool! Wish there was a "touchup tool" for real life though ...
Since I'm going ahead to admit to that, I may as well let you know that I used to be a chronic nail biter - and still sometimes to resort back to it when I am highly stressed. My left forefinger is my most likely victim as it usually happens when I am sitting in front of the computer at work and typically my right hand is on the mouse.
Waaaaay back in the day, like elementary school, I used to chew on my hair too - not even sure why, probably because I saw some of the more popular gals with the long gorgeous locks doing it and I was just so thankful to have hair long enough to stick in my mouth. Nowadays, I apparently just like trimming my bangs between pro cuts and doing them way too short - yes, this is the second time I've done so in a few months. Just randomness!
Do you gals have any horrible habits that you totally know you shouldn't but can't help it?

ReplyDeleteLove your turquoise skirt and matching necklace, such a pretty shade!
-Sharon
Oh the Giants know how to seat people in their seats alright! W is still a W though!
DeleteLet's talk about your lipstick. I love the shade! What color is it?
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think it was this one - Dior Creme de Gloss, no. 441.
DeleteMy mom cheaped on the Clarisonic too and got the Olay brush... but then she had a facial where they used it and realized how sucky the Olay brush was in comparison. Ask for a Clarisonic for your birthday/next Christmas? I got her one for Christmas since she was too cheap to buy it for herself. Haha... so I totally understand where you're coming from!
ReplyDeleteI "may" have a bit of a habit of buying some things, especially beauty items, and then not really using them. I figure if I don't jump on the brush bandwagon, at least I'm only out $25 - but if I do love this thing, the Clarisonic is the next step!
DeleteI am a chronic nail biter my entire life. There is no hope at this point for me to ever stop...
ReplyDeleteI am head over heels for this look! I adore the shade of blue with the grey/black....divine!
That's partly why I started painting my nails, so I couldn't chew them. I've stopped for a while because I clipped them too short a while ago, but I better start painting them again or work stress will get me!
DeleteYour jewellery is killing me here, I love all of it!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new skin care routine. Most importantly be gentle to your skin and don't try too many new things at once!
Yeah, I am realizing I may have to stagger the use of the new products or I may end up with a whole lotta facial troubles!
DeleteWhat a GORGEOUS ensemble, Lisa! Ladylike with an edge.
ReplyDeleteClassy outfit, as always! Really pretty.
ReplyDeleteAs far as bad habits, I used to bite my nails SO badly when I was a kid, but I magically just stopped in high school. I have no idea how/why I stopped, but I'm just glad I did. My 2 bad habits are pulling out my hair (it's actually called trichotillomania and I've done it since I was 10) and stress eating. At least the hair pulling isn't dangerous (although it's not pretty), but the stress eating is making me totally unhealthy!
BTW, I ordered the Clarisonic Mia a few days ago with a 20% off coupon on SkinStore.com. Can't wait to try it!

Happy New Year! That skirt is so pretty on you :) I used to be a really bad nail biter too, but getting manicures really helps. If my nails aren't done, i still struggle with it to this day. Bleh.

You will LOVE the Replenix but start off sparingly, like a pea size. It's very good but very potent. The results are amazing though!
ReplyDeletei'm a diehard niners fan... that was a tough game! as long as you guys beat the pats then we're good. ;)
ReplyDeletei pick at my cuticles. its a nervous habit. i need to stop so i have nice nails for the wedding...

I feel for you, because we Giants have had our share of "almosts" too often! What I am thrilled at is that Jim Harbaugh is the head coach for the Niners - I was a huge fan of his back in the day when he was QB for the Colts! And wee Lisa had a crush on hunky Jim too!
DeleteHi Lisa! As for the towel ritual, you can easily prepare hot towel by using microwave. Just put wet towel in there and heat it up. Also, you can use freezer to make cold towel. When you put hot towel, I recommend to lie down while you do so for about a few minutes at least. Hopefully you will find it useful!
ReplyDeleteYes, thanks so much for your information here and feedback from my last post, Jo! I think I've read about this before but honestly it has just never occurred for me to do it, but makes perfect sense! Now I have a use for all those hand towels I never do anything with! ;o)
DeleteThat was a great game last night. Nearly gave me a heart attack. So glad NY prevailed. Love your skirt and jacket Lisa. Happy Chinese New Year to you and wish you luck with your beauty regimen. Everything will come together. Have a great week.

I totally used to bite my nails when I was younger. I hardly ever do now. Love this cute outfit on you! The colors are fab! =)
ReplyDeleteThose Giants almost gave me a heart attack. I think I am still recovering from the stress. I am ashamed to admit, that I am a pimple popper. I know it's bad and not goo for my skin, but I can't help it. I need to get on top of a better skin regimen like you are.

Hey I am right there with you - doing it this past weekend, in fact. Bad, bad Lisa, and reaping the "rewards" today on my face for doing that!
DeleteLove the color of your skirt!!! Nice outfit, I think one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteLola
My daughter is a total nail biter! I am always trying to talk her out of it but to no avail! I adore the color of that skirt!
ReplyDeleteLast night's game was a nail biter, but I'm so glad that the Giants pulled out the win. I haven't screamed so loudly at the TV in a long time. My bad habit is picking at my cuticles...it gets a little gross sometimes. I usually do it when I'm stressing out about something. BTW...you're outfit looks great. I love how the blue color pops. Happy Lunar New Year!
ReplyDeleteI could only watch yesterday's game in bits and pieces - I am totally a screamer and hand thrower upper too. I scare the BF and the pup!
DeleteStrange how blue the skirt looks like in different lighting - it is really more green to me, very similar to the viridian green color from J.Crew!
ReplyDeleteI really love your skirt! I desperately want a pencil skirt in that color!
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
Fun color combination - really like how the green pops against the gray and black.
ReplyDelete:)
What a great color combo! The bracelets are perfect with it!
ReplyDelete...Lauren
Love that aqua skirt :) Looks really pretty! I need to buy some more colored items for my wardrobe :)
ReplyDeletekatattack2000.wordpress.com
i almost bought that skirt from loft! it looks great on u!
ReplyDeletei used to chew on my hair too! hehehe.. the only habit i have now is rubbing my eyes! argh, i wish i could stop doing that!!!! i can't help it, it feels soo good when ur tired and right when u wake up! lol.
I LOVE this outfit!! You have seriously outdone yourself with this one, it is fantastic! Love the aqua colour, it is so refreshing to see in the dead of winter. I have never tried the Olay brush and I'm curious to hear what you think of it. Happy Lunar New Year!!
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa, I should have chimed in last post but... oops. As a 41-year old, my advice is to see a dermatologist sooner than later, esp. if you have good insurance. Do this before you undertake some fad-driven esthetician's service. Even if you don't have a *medical* complaint, you'll receive good advice on what you should and shouldn't do for your skin. Worst case scenario, s/he says "come back in 10 years". I promise it will be worth your time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your advice, Katherine. Yes, I think I need to go see a derm (I've never been to one before) to really figure out what is good for me long-term.
Delete(BTW, do you live in Santa Fe? I lived in ABQ for a few years, I used to love to drive up to Santa Fe and hang out!)
Happy Chinese New Years!! You look so gorgeous today in the aqua skirt!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you too!
ReplyDeleteGood choice on the Olay Pro X brush. I love mine, and use it with my regular cleanser. Also make sure the retinol stays in the fridge. It slowly decomposes at room temperature (I will spare you the chemistry). :) Later you can look into vitamin C serum to add to your regimen (such as Cellex C, but not the one that contains the 2-mix isomers since it is inactive. It has to be L-ascorbic acid).
Lovely outfit, I really love your skirt and need that necklace! My bad habit has to be picking at my chin I get the worse white heads in that area. I know TMI, but I'm working on getting better with it!!
ReplyDeleteSo chic! Love all of thee pieces together :) Gorgeous skirt!
