Behaving Secretly Single

C: You guys, I miss walking into my apartment with no one there and it's all quiet and I can do that stuff you do when you're totally alone, things you would never want your boyfriend to see you do ... My SSB, my Secret Single Behavior. Like, I like to make a stack of saltines. I put grape jelly on them. I eat them standing up in the kitchen reading fashion magazines.

M: Why standing up?

C: It’s weird, but it just feels great.

M: I like to put Vaseline on my hands and put them in Borghese conditioning gloves while watching infomercials.

Ch: Before I was married I used to study my pores in a magnifying mirror for an hour each night. But I'm afraid Trey will think it's weird.

Remember that episode of our original guilty pleasure show, Sex and the City? If you don't, it was the same rerun that was on just the other night (I like easy). Carrie Bradshaw brought the term "Secret Single Behavior" into our vernacular and made thousands of women rub their manicured hands together in embarassed glee over outing the knowledge of their closet female rituals.

Do I have any SSBs? Uh, do we have all day? I like to flip through US Weekly while surfing for shoes on the web with Bravo TV playing in the background. I like to obsessively pluck stray hairs from my eye brow area. I concoct strange food creations - like cooked cheap-o ramen noodles mixed with the chicken flavor powder pack - no water - and mayo, aka my SSB alfredo. I go through my closet and try on my shoes. I put a Biore nose strip on and paint my toe nails while listening to Sara Bareilles on repeat. I populate my Pinterest boards a new obsession. I read cookbooks - yes, read. I could go on.

So all is fair with us girls and SSBs - what's your Secret Single Behavior?

  1. um, I'm obsessed with that black peel-off masque (that I can't for the life of me remember the name of now), but it's absolutely terrifying and embarrassing, so I only do it when I know my BF will be gone for a while. I also obsessively trim my cuticles and floss my teeth (I guess there are worse habits)....oh, and I like to pick out all my outfits for an upcoming week by trying on a bunch of clothes on Sunday and deciding what goes best. That is the thing I've most curtailed in since moving in with J, and it's so sad. I miss Sunday Funday with my closet.

  2. Hm I can't really think of anything that I used to do when I was single that I don't do anymore. I'm lucky, I guess!

  5. I exhibit ultimate SSB when the bf goes out of town. Most of the time the bf goes away during the week, so I love to wake up in the morning before work and eat breakfast in bed while I watch tv. It makes me so happy :)

  6. I read fashion blogs for hours on end, and sometimes play dress-up in my closet. :-D

  7. I lay in the center of the King sized bed, with hot apple thingy from Trader Joes and Edy's Dulce De Leche ice cream and watch Single Ladies on VH1! Shhhh, don't tell anyone...

  8. Umm, how about watching reruns of Grey's Anatomy on Hulu while the doc is away saving lives? Or clicking "refresh" to on the UPS site to check the status of my latest Anthro order? There are more things, but all of a sudden I got shy!
Sweet outfit and love how streamlined everything appears.

  9. You look adorable Lisa. The Sex and the City dialouge made me crack up, because I seriously eat in the kitchen standing up when my fiance isn't home! So that's some SSB on my part. I also play dress up and take photos when he's not around.

  12. i sit in my jammies on the sofa watching hoarders with my laptop and cat. and then i'll sleep in the middle of the bed.

  13. I love your skirt!! I has such an interesting and fun looking hemline.

As far as my SSB, I like to go in the bathroom, grab my tweezers and go to town on stray facial hairs (is that tmi?). I don't know why, but I get embarrassed if my guy sees me tweezing anything other than my eyebrows.

  14. My SSB behavior? Every time I go to the grocery store, I buy a Boston Creme donut to eat at home. When I become a mama, I will share this SSB with my children. :o)

  16. Oh man, SSBs. Where to even begin, right? I definitely prefer no-pants around the house. Like I will come home and change into a big t-shirt or a loose dress just to avoid pants. Also, dancing around to music using various things as mics.

  17. Hmmmm..let me think about this. I like to play with nail polish and make-up.(still do it while he sleeps..lol) Try on all the clothes in my closet and take a nice long bath without a "can I join you" ha ha.

You look wonderful, love the stripe shirt and need that white skirt. That necklace is definitely a new DIY project for me!

  18. I just love your outfit Lisa! Love everything about it.

  19. For me it would be Secret Before Kids Behavior SBKB but it is all the same.

I would eat candy for dinner, Watch what movies I wanted when I wanted, go to the gym late at night, sleep in (any day of the week would do), go shopping and actually look at things and the list goes on. That was more depressing that I realized it would be.

I love my little shopping buddies, I really do....

Love the outfit. I have that stripe button tee, you make it look great. Maybe I should actually wear mine some time!

  20. Heheh, what a funny question.

Reading other comments, it seems like playing dress up is a popular thing to do (I'm definitely guilty of that). Watching anything on Lifetime (so embarrassing ...) or the Disney channel (I'm so ashamed). I love gorging on either Ramen (altho sans mayo ... not gonna lie, that sounds about seven degrees of unappetizing to me) or Stouffer's mac and cheese. Umm, not showering for two days? Is that TMI?

  21. I do anything I want around my husband.. he doesn't care and I don't care.. lol hmm but I open my shopping bagS to see what I bought from Anthro when he is not around...

  22. My SSB was sitting in my closet and staring at my shoes. Well, I actually still do that, so I guess that has become my MSB. Huh.

Anyway, this is a really unique skirt! I love it and would not think to pair it with the striped tee. Lovin' it!

  23. I love the blue necklace with these stripes- it really jumps out.

heh...how about reading blogs and polyvoring for hours? oh wait, maybe that's what will eventually make me single...hey honey! (trots off...)

  24. hahah - I LOVED that episode of SATC! You're so funny Lisa, a ton of your SSB I probably do right in front of the hubs! My SSB would include: compulsive plucking of eyebrows, picking at pores, pinterst for sure, blogging (yep, i'm a lil shy about it), and shopping online in the wee early morning... Probably best I got married seeing as how my SSB activities don't sound all that great! Happy Friday!

  26. Love this outfit and love this post! :)
If the husband is gone for several days, I will take one of those days to simply veg out the WHOLE DAY. I mean, how many Lifetime movies can you fit in one day and still see straight?! I also eat only junk food and play dress up when he is away. Thankfully, I'm normally VERY READY for him to come back home though!!

  27. First and foremost, your outfit. Your shoes. LOVE. Seriously, I have a deep and unwavering love of Seychelles shoes and these are fantastic.

SSB? Um. I have so many. Pore examination, horrible and cheap Chinese food delivery, and drunken techno dancing whilst cleaning the house are probably the top 3. :)

    Happy Happy Friday! ♥

  28. I am reading blogs while not paying attention to my Ops Geology Instructor. Pray I don't do this while a well is being drilled while I'm on watch. Kablooey! Im also watching a gal who is young enough to be my daughter unconciously twist her hair into knots and then feel the knot and untie it. All while not looking. An amazing feet to be sure.

All while madly laughing at your you BSS behaviors. Every woman I know is obsessed with plucking. Including me.

Pacey is admiring your stylish outfit And that amazing Pop of Turquoise Etsy Necklace.

  29. Just like Charlotte, I, too, am studying my pores in much detail. Not for an hour each evening, but a few minutes for sure. :)

  31. Hilarious! I totally remember that Sex in the city episode. It's so rare that I'm ....alone....in my own house, I had to think for a minute. Private styling sessions as a party of one for sure, making cookie dough and not baking any cookies, eating said cookie dough on couch while watching Project Runway and/or blog reading and Anthro website stalking. I love your necklace, especially with the mossy brown stripes. Must check out that fabulous etsy shop. Thanks for the find!

  32. Fabulous outfit Lisa, I love it!! Strange enough, I can't think of anything I like to do when the Mr. isn't around (except maybe cut my nails, the clipping sound drives him insane ;)

  33. Those shoes are awesome! My secret single behavior is turning up the music really loud and dancing around my house.
