A Flare for Fashion

I first saw these killer flares on Callandra, Amy and Kim, and they wore theirs so well that I couldn't help but be inspired. So I snagged a similar pair on Ebay (J. Crew, you make the darn good denim - now bring back the hipslungs and petite inseams so I'm not stuck scouring the web for your jeans that fit me) and am happily hustlin' and bumpin' my way through this Friday. Anyone wanna play some Twister?

What I love about this style blogging community is also my wallet's downfall - I'll often see another gal look so good in a piece I never even considered before that I end up going on a crazed hunt to find that exact item or something similar - all-the-while trying to decide whether I really like it, or am just being inadvertantly fashion-enabled (I do mean you, d'armee). Or I get in full-blown butt-kick mode for missing out on pieces that everyone seems to look gorgeous in - yep, you, field game, and you, horizon line, and you, liberty bouquet. I've got to learn to put my fashion blinders on more often - but then again, I would've missed out on these groovy new jeans.

Any of you gals see a fella blogger rock something so well that you immediately had to go out and snag one of your own?

(BTW, thanks so much to Mugdha from A Vigilant Muse for the blog award!)

  1. The flares look great on you Lisa - glad to see you rocking them!
I often see things on other bloggers and they make it look so good I want it, but I really try to stick hard to only buying what I love, because I love it.

  2. It's hard for me not to feel enabled to buy something that other bloggers have! I'm trying the flare trend as well, but in a more tame bootcut style because I'm not too fashion forward. One thing I do appreciate is that when all the bloggers are getting the same thing, it's because it's actually flattering. Without this community, I'd be just another geek with no fashion-sense :)

  3. Sigh....I have been DYING for a pair of high rise flares since I saw them on Kim. It's no big surprise this is yet another trend you wear impeccably. It's a great look on you- lean, sophisticated. I'm seriously desperate for apair for myself...I'm 5'2",and pear-shaped. *Any* tips on where to look are appreciated. Sadly, the ones I saw on Kim don't come in petite sizes :(

  5. Those jeans are awesome! I have been trying to decide if I want to buy a pair of extreme flares and you might be helping me lean towards trying it.

  6. A pair of flare jeans are on my wishlist for spring, but I haven't found them yet. Almost everything that I see on other bloggers I want (like this top and shoes you're rocking)but I have to restrain myself otherwise I would go severely into debt :)

  7. I *LOVE* this outfit Lisa! I might have to get the shirt (and the shoes are already on my wishlist).... I already own the High Heel Denim from J.Crew, haven't worn them in a while... maybe I'll break them back out :)

  8. Those look fantastic on you. What is the rise like? Low, medium, or high?

  9. I love those flared jeans, and I love the way you paired them with that top and belt! XOXO, www.NatalyasCloset.com

  10. You look fantastic in those jeans! I've been wanting to get some flared jeans myself... finally I remembered that I had a pair that were too small on me. They used to fit me before I gained a bit of weight, but since I've been on a weight loss mission I thought I'd see if I fit into them yet, and I was thrilled to see that they fit me!!! Yay! Now I don't have to go buy new jeans :) Oh, and yes - I do sometimes see something on a blogger and then go on a mission to find it, but I've stopped doing that as much these days. I'm just buying whatever I love!

  14. Those jeans are indeed groovy. Lookin' great as always!

  15. I'm really loving those jeans. I might have to go on my own personal hunt for a pair :)

  16. I love those jeans! You wear them well. In terms of wanting what other bloggers wear I'd say yes. All of the time. I've shamelessly purchased many items just cause I saw someone else rocking a similar look (I actually succumbed to the darmee myself but haven't worn it yet, do I really love it? I so don't know yet.)I'm getting better at longing from afar or I'm gonna have to put off grad school!

  17. Waiting for my BR trousers to arrive here. And I may, MAY just spring for the Madewell Wideleggers. yes, I love wideleggers/flares/trousers THAT much. Flattering on just about anyone, IMO. Re: your question - I can't think of a particular item that I snagged after seeing it on a blogger, but I do know I get a little excited after reading about others' shopping hauls (such as during a JC promo...)

  18. I know I definitely have. Especially with that infamous Target lace skirt that everyone has. I love those jeans and I love that flair jeans are coming back.

  19. It's way too easy to get influenced by other bloggers look great in pieces I may have never considered!

Those jeans look great on you! The proportions are all right on you. They look totally 70's inspired but not so much that you couldn't style them otherwise.

  20. oh my goodness, I would love to go to Roswell, it's one of those places like Salem that no matter what you believe about what occurred, it's always going to be just a tad creepy. I imagine driving back from Roswell at night is a horrrrrifying experience.

you are killing this outfit! I really love the high waisted jeans, they are incredibly flattering on you! Also, I love the casual tuck of that blouse, all in all this is a definitely classy look!

  21. You look great. I ... want to look like that, but I'm afraid I won't.

I wore flares when flares weren't popular and I'm scared that the image will always scare me.

But I love that bloggers push me outside of my comfort zone too.

  22. You look so stylin' in those flares, Lisa! I'm in love with them on you! Gorgeous! :)

  23. Looking good in those flares! I know exactly what you mean. Since getting hooked on fashion blogs and other fashion networking sites, I've burnt a hole in my pocket. Like once, I saw a blogger look absolutely chic in a blazer so I searched high and low for it and found it on eBay. I ended up in a bidding war with someone else and won the item. Sadly, when it arrived, it looked absolutely hideous on me. I had to sell it back on eBay for less than half the price I bought it for :(

  24. I'm loving the flare trend right now! I have a ton of them and am so happy the skinny jean thing is over. I was not pulling off the skinny jean look well at all. Love my flares! You, by the way, look fabulous!

  25. Wow those look hot on you!

I know what you mean about seeing stuff on other ladies and NEEDING it!!! Luckily, or unluckily - however you want to look at it - for me, I can't get a lot of the same items in Canada and being a petite there isn't much petite only sizing!

  26. Momoberry - I hear ya about your last comment! I totally didn't get out of my personal fashion slump until after I started blogging and getting so inspired by the other bloggers out there!

Tara - I think the Gap actually has a ton of denim flare styles available, in various inseam and fits, that may be a good start! I believe Amy got her long and lean jeans from the Gap!

E Hayes - I love the fit of JC jeans - definitely break out your high heel flares!

Thirteenlbs - The high heel flares are kind of mid-rise, which I like. I'm over the muffin top, haha!

Closet Crisis - I know what you mean - it took me a long time to learn to love skinnies, and I don't really "love" skinnies. I can only take them in small doses and on skinny-feeling days, haha!

Joey - oh no, I hate when that happens, but I've done it myself!

curls-and-pearls - but you gals have cool Canadian brands we can't get in the States either!

  27. I'm guilty as charged. And I'm guilty of spreading it too many bloggers. I call it ADE. The Anthro Domino Effect.

Psst... Lisa, you absolutely need the D'armee Dress.

  28. Holy. Cow. Those jeans are amazing on you! I love the half-tucked shirt too. You look fantastic! Now I'M going to have to hunt for some jeans like them!

  29. Umm, absolute perfection. Flares are your good friend!!!

I was eyeballing that top online, but didn't get it (it was being modeled by a chick I can't stand, which might be part of the reason, lol). I think it's sold out now. Works perfectly with your new jeans.

I have seen so many things on bloggers that I had to have. I generally try to keep those urges to a minimum, but it gets a big iffy when it comes to shoes.
