The Short of It

I found out yesterday that my pup has mange. And I'm not sure if I look good in cropped pants. And I have doubts whether this outfit works together or is too hodge podge-y. So that's about it for my day - how are you all doing?

No worries about the Pacey, ladies, she's got the demodectic kind, which is very treatable especially because we caught it early before we had to permanently rename her Patches. Plus it's not contagious to humans or other dogs so Pacey doesn't need to be sent to survivor island. And she can't re-catch it, so there'll be no burning of the bed or the couch.

So what about these pants? Should short people just not wear crops? Is there no such thing as a work-friendly crop, regardless of how much that Ann Taylor lady tries to tell us otherwise?

Top: H&M tiered (worn here before - similar here or here)
Sweater: Xhiliration by Target lace (or similar high-end here)
Pants: Loft marisa city synthetic cropped (or similar here)
Shoes: Kenneth Cole Reaction swim n fool (worn here before - similar here or w/bow here)
Necklace: Anthropologie jahara (worn here before - similar here or here)

  1. What?!? Short people can wear ANYTHNING :P Well I like to believe so - I think cropped pants look great on you, this whole outfit is great. Is this the same lace cardi that Jean has? (www.extrapetite.com) - how tall are you anyway?

  2. Hi curls-and-pearls - I'm 5'2" and I've always veered away from crops before because I always thought they made a short person look shorter. But I am loving all these trouser-y crops out now so I succumbed.
And yes, same lace cardi like the black one Jean has, except I think she rocked it way better!

  3. aww poor pacey! get well soon :)

as for the crops, I like how they look. I think maybe I'd pair them with a higher heel to elongate a little more, but it doesn't look bad :)

  4. I think you look darling. Definitely work appropriate but on the more casual side (so I guess I wouldn't wear crops when going to important meeting or meeting clients, etc).

Hope your puppy gets better soon!

  5. I like the top of this outfit, and I like the bottom, but I'm not a big fan of it together...It might be the shoes that throws it all off for me. The lace and soft, tiered top work really well together! I personally don't wear cropped pants, but I don't think that means short girls in general can't wear them. If you like them, rock them!

I hope Pacey feels better asap!

  6. You can totally rock cropped!!! I especially love how they look when you're sitting on the step. You are well proportioned--your legs don't look short to me.

    Poor Pacey-pup!! :(

  7. Hi! New follower here! I like your look today. I think it is creative and it works. I love the lace cartigan paired with the tiered top and crops. And, in my opinion, the shoes are a surprising twist and just pull all the colors together. Maybe your shoes could be the statement piece and you could wear a less-statement piece necklace? just a thought. :) Keep up the good work!

  8. I think the cropped pants look fine and maybe that's because you're wearing them with heels and not flats? To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen anyone in a cropped pant that I didn't think should be wearing them, so I don't think height makes a difference. I love this lace cardigan and tiered top together, so pretty! And I hope Pacey is feeling better. I'm glad to hear she won't be voted off the island anytime soon :)

  10. Honestly, with a confident stance and a pretty smile like that, you can wear ANYTHING. I personally like the outfit and the cropped pants.

Sorry about your doggy. :( But I'm glad the news isn't too terribly bad.

  11. I like how the crops look on you, you're slim and those pants are proportioned properly for you. I'm pear shaped AND short limbed, so must balance out my bottom half with trouser cuts and heels for the extra height. I think crops can be appropriate for work as long as the pants are made of a suiting fabric and paired with dress heels. Just my opinion here, but I see far too many women pushing the business-casual dress code into picnic-wear territory. I love your look, not hodgey at all.

  12. I think you look wonderful, Lisa! Love the combo because it dresses down the softer textures you have up top. :)

  13. Sorry about the pup! I actually thinks the outfit looks especially cute on you. Hodge Podge or not, it works AND is adorable...can't be it! :)

  16. I think short people can wear crops as long as they're paired with the right top and shoes to help one not look like a homeless frump (a feat that I think you've achieved here with flying colors, to mix metaphors).

My best wishes to Pacey and you guys in her treatment!

  17. You're stunning. You could wear a potato sack and be beautiful. I love the cropped pants on you and I think the ruffled blouse with the lacy cardigan is gorgeous! You look great. :)

  18. Sometimes cropped pants can look iffy on us shorties, but you ROCK the cropped pants. You have very long, slender legs, so I think you can wear cropped pants just as well as any tall person! The fact that you wore these with heels just better sells them, though I bet you could look just as fabulous with cropped pants and flats, too.

I love the floaty top, and the necklace! Adorable!! I'm sorry to hear that Pacey got mange, but woohoo for it being easily treatable!

  19. Thanks for your comments and well wishes for Pacey, ladies! She's feeling great, is crazy as ever and still acts like we don't already feed her twice as much as she's supposed get, so she's her ole self!

Poor Pacey is just extra itchy nowadays and between the scratching, the medicine the kills the mites and it getting warmer, is shedding all over the place! I had to dust bust the bed this morning! And I have to pull fur balls out of the lint trap for the dryer, yech!

  20. E Hayes - I was thinking the same thing but I discovered that I really didn't have any higher heels. But don't worry, I added that onto my "to shop for" list! ;o)

Eek - why do retailers sell the cropped pant suits then? Is it so we can look like business up top but picnic on the bottom? Kinda of reminds me of sleeveless turtlenecks, haha.

Ashley - yeah, I was wondering this morning if I had too many textures going on!

    Thanks so much, Brooke!

Sweet Laundry - I have a pair of white linen wide leg crops that may make you change your mind, haha!

Aw, thanks, Melissa. I only rock my potato sacks on the weekends with a colorful belt and wedges, haha.

Amy - thanks for thinking that, but I've gotten really good at masking everything from the waist down and knees up! As for Pacey - whew, because I feared that she had to live out on the balcony for three months and I had to burn everything she's ever sprawled out on!

  21. I like those on you, and as a self-proclaimed shortie myself I believe we can wear anything! I also have to say I was in love with your tiered top, however it didn't look as amazing on my as it does on you!

    Wishing pacey all the luck!

  22. I love this outfit! The tiered top and lace cardigan go together nicely. :) I think I may have to get one myself at H&M!!

  23. I love cropped pants, but know it can look iffy since I'm not tall either. I definitely think a really high heel makes it look much better. Love the leopard pumps!!

  24. I say short people can wear whatever it is their hearts desire. I like the cropped pants look on you actually and drool, I love that target lace cardi. Everyone got it...except for me. And I am feeling a little left out. But I really wouldn't know how to wear it even if I bought it. You wear it beautifully as always.

Sorry about Pacey, I am happy to hear she should be ok. :)

  25. Oh, poor Pacey! I'm so glad it is easily treatable! I totally hear you about the hair/fur balls. With 3 dogs, it is pretty much a constant battle (that I have given up on:). Someone recently bought me a coffee mug that says, "Everything tastes better with dog hair in it"!

Love the lace cardi, and yes, you are absolutely rocking the crops!

  26. One of my dogs was born with mange, but it ended up not being much of a problem for her (and she lived to be 14).

About your outfit, I think top and the sweater are great together, and the necklace kind of matches the shoes. It's funny that you wonder if short people can't wear cropped pants. I don't want to wear them myself because my legs are too long, so who can wear them, then?! I don't love them on anyone but at that length they are OK in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I REALLY love this outfit. I think the whole thing just works, and the shoes are a great bit of fun.

  28. So in love with this outfit and the cropped pants must be a "do" on you because I just forwarded to the Loft website to buy a pair for myself! ;)

  29. Elle - not be a shopping enabler, but the cardis are still available on Target.com for like $10! Doo doo dum dee dee ...

kristin - that is hilarious, I need one of those cups! Who knew one short-haired pup could shed so much - I dust bust like no one's business and I still feel like I have dog hair in my mouth all the time, yeck!

Lady Cardi - I see people wearing the big old wide leg crops - now that's a look that ain't so good on people!

Callandra - ah, a shopping gal after my own heart! You'll have to give me inspiration on more ways to wear them!

  30. I love the shortie on you...esp. with a bit of a kitten heel :) Glad to hear that the pup is gonna be okay (though I would be curious to know what three things she would have brought with her if she was banished to the island! :))

  31. Oh no poor puppy! I'm glad she will be doing alright. I JUST made a post on the GAP slim cropped pants. Heehee! I think cropped pants can be flattered on petites. It is definitely bold but you dressed the outfit up with ruffles and a feminine cardigan. I think it looks really great. =0D

  32. yes to crops! I mean, it can be super hard to find the right dimensions, but it's the perfect way to transition into spring!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Poor little pups!! I am glad hes going to be okay though! (And that he can't recatch it! How lucky you don't have to play an extermination game!) And although sometimes the crops look matronly and tired, you look smokin and chic! I think you are safely in the okay for work range!

  35. Sorry to read about Pacey. I think cropped pants with heels are ok for shorter ladies, but it all depends on the body shape, ultimately. I know some tall women who don't look good in them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Glad to hear all is going to be well with Pacey. I actually like your cropped pants. I think they are cute on you!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ok, you look super adorable today - I love everything about your outfit! And I am number 38 comment - hello! that's a lotta love!

    ReplyDelete
  38. aww,poor Pacey. Hope he's getting better.
I think you pull off cropped pants really well and I don't see any issue with them. You're so super cute Lisa, that people don't notice your height anyway...and especially not when you're wearing those gorgeous leopard print shoes!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think your cropped pants look great, and perfect for the workplace. I also like the contrast between the longer cardigan length (such a pretty lacy number!) and the shorter hem length. And the colors in your necklace are absolutely stunning.

So glad you found out now about the mange. Poor Pacey!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Cat - that's hilarious! Though I know the three things I would've made her take if she was dropping little mite buddies all over the place: my bed, my couch and all the carpet in the house!

vintageglammz - aw, thanks, now if that were only true IRL too, I look so weird standing next to normal-size people in pictures, haha!

Thanks, Jamie. Pacey is just temporarily named Patches! Apparently the medicine we have her on with kill the mites but as they die, they take hair with them, so she's going to look worse before better!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm glad Pacey has you looking out for her and has a good prognosis!

I think you look AWESOME in those cropped pants -very, very flattering on your frame!

  42. I have that same ruffle top in black! Lol. I thought I recognized it from that photo. The lace you wore over it is so pretty! Lovely outfit :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. No worries dear Lisa! You're proportioned in such a way that the crops look fabulous. And how lucky are you to be able to wear the layered blouse too. I'm too busty for such fabulously sheer perfections. My Guinea Pig (Salty) had the same type of Mange. Three injections and it was gone forever. And Sweety didn't catch it. I'm sure dear Pacey will be just fine. Love to you!

  44. omg i LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE LOVE this outfit!!!

i cannot even begin to tell you how much i love this outfit!

the blue lace cardi, the cream white ruffles and most importantly the leopard print kitten heels!!! *sigh* seriously gorgeous!

  45. i think the heels pull it together nicely and the crop length is just right. the heel of the shoe elevates everything to the perfect proportion.
