My New Favorite Purple

I got this skirt on Ebay recently on a whim and love love it, but other than white and black (and more purple - so yes, I still have trouble breaking out of matchy-matchydom), I'm not so sure what else to pair with it. I recall Dea rocking this skirt way back when, but I am not sure I can pull off the bright green pairing as well as she had.

You color-switching gurus have any recommendations?

For the next Respect the Outfits reader feature, let's go back to our favorites! The last favorites post was a huge hit and we had a ton of really gorgeous ladies dressed in their feel-good best. So let's do it again!

What has been a favorite outfit of yours? What have you worn recently (or from recent memory) that has made you feel fantastic? Was it a special occassion piece that you'll keep forever, the never-fail dress that helped snag you a boyfriend,  the best skirt in the world that loves your figure back, a dear gift from a loved one, or just a not-so-plain-ole "it's Thursday" ensemble that had you strutting it down the cubicle aisle feeling good?

Send me your outfit pic along with a short descriptor of why your outfit is one of your faves. Include outfit deets and a link back to your original post, if you like. Post will go up on Wednesday, March 16, so please send me your stuff by Tuesday evening! Shoot your stuff over to me at respecttheshoes(at)live.com.

Thanks for keeping this reader feature going, I always love seeing what you gals submit!

  2. I love that skirt & although your top is purple too, it still looks great. I'm not good with color mixing myself. I'm a bit matchy matchy most days. Happy Tuesday Friend!

  3. Love that skirt. I'd try it with navy, olive, mustard, mint or rust.

  4. My favorite color combo is purple + yellow (or mustard, goldenrod, etc) so I suggest that!

  5. Love that skirt Lisa, purple totally suits you! I think puple looks really nice with mustard for contrast or grey for a more subdued look.

  6. Your hair looks fabulous Lisa....and I really love that skirt!!

  7. Great skirt!! I loved when Dea wore it with green -- you should give it a try! I also agree with everyone who has said pairing it with yellow would be a great look too.

  8. So cute! I really love what you put together and I thing navy and gray would work great too! I've scored a few goodies on Ebay recently too - love a good impulse buy ;)

  9. I love the skirt! I recently wore a purple skirt with a floral button-down shirt and a red cardi here: http://www.littlegirlbigcloset.com/2011/02/blast-from-past.html

My outfit was definitely very colorful, though- not sure if that's what you're looking for :P

  10. Sooo cute! That is the cutest skirt! I think you could totally pull off green, mustard yellow or navy with it! Isn't eBay the best ?!!!

  11. You look wonderful Lisa, love this skirt on you and I think you did a rockin' job of styling it. The green is definitely a bright color to pair it with, but like others suggested, perhaps a navy blue, or a rust color, or a maroon top....loads of options, see? :)

  12. You look great! I second the other ladies and say mustard would look good.

  13. oh my gosh how cute is this outfit! You look fabulous!

  14. Awesome skirt. That would totally stump me. I guess to be my version of "daring", I'd go with an off white cardigan. Real badass, right? LOL

  15. Did you cut your hair? It looks so adorable Lisa!
As for purple, I like to style it with yellow - light or mustard, navy blue, and red.

  16. I must've been MIA for a while cause I just noticed your new cut! It looks great on you! I'm looking for a salon to cut my hair atm.. I like short hair. Much less work...

  17. Love the color block skirt. It's so cute.

  18. Thanks for your comments on my "new cut," ladies, but I am sorry to disappoint. No chopping has been done to me - I just decided to flip my part to the other side of my head for some extra bounce, which worked! Unfortunately I am spending all day trying to keep the hair out of my face - it keeps wants to go back!

  19. That skirt looks awesome! I think you might be able to try it with some lighter shades of blue or possibly pink if you're feeling daring. :)

  20. I love that skirt on you! Love your new "do" as well. Try pairing the skirt with yellow or a bright blue. Think 80's (but in a good way!) :)

  21. Love your outfit, love your hair, LOVE EVERYTHING! LOL...I will chime in with another gold/mustard vote. Gold, purple, green = Mardi gras colors...and it is FAT TUESDAY! Bon ton roulet!!!! :)

  22. Ooh I love that purple and that outfit. Purple was my alma mater color so I have a great loyalty to it. :) You look awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh that skirt is too precious! It looks tres chic with the print top. I was also thinking it would look great with a pastel or light colored solid drapey top thing too. =0D

  24. Pretty skirt! Mustard would look good as a lot of people have pointed out. :)

  25. Such a cute skirt! I would try pairing it with a darker gray or navy.

I'm excited for the next Respect the Outfits feature. Sounds fun!

  26. I am a violet lover - so much stuff in my closet is violet.
I'd wear - pink or hot pink, dark green, or, if you are feeling daring: a bright red!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Gorgeous! I am obsessed with pairing purple with NAVY BLUE - so I vote for that combo!

    ReplyDelete
  28. that skirt looks fantastic on you!! I highly recommend you pair it with something yellow/mustard. there's just something about that color combo that makes the colors pop.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Beautiful skirt on you. I would try something from the blue family next time. And if you're feeling crazy, try orange!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lisa that skirt is beautiful! I can see it going with so much and like others have said I would try it with mustard or navy.

    ReplyDelete
  31. oooo I like the purple..it's so vibrant, perfect for a springtime look!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh man, I'm so jealous! I've wanted that skirt for so long! Congrats. I would definitely try a mustard combo. Also, do a neutral top with a pop of color belt. Try the green color in a belt form first, you know, to warm up to it. Could also try a muted orange print. That would look awesome with some brown accents in the belt and shoes....ya look darling today. I love it!

  33. Thanks for your recommendations, ladies. Sounds like some form of yellow (honey or mustard) is the most popular choice, with navy and green as second and third runners.

And an orange or red pairing ... whoa, that's varsity color pairing territory there! That is definitely thinking way outside of the box - I love it, thanks so much, I would've never in a million years thought of those pairings.

Considering I have no honey/mustard tops, this is a lovely excuse to go shopping, hehe.

Mommyblogger - if it were not for blogging and seeing what all you fashionable gals are wearing, I'd be that gal in the red skirt, red shoes, red bag, red earrings, read headband, haha!

Jan - I think you and I would be dangerous shopping together - no self-control and complete enabling!

Molly - I love scouring Ebay and the EA trade market for bargains and hard-to-find pieces. Plus stumbling upon older items I've never seen before - I love it!

  34. ohhhh such a unique and gorgeous skirt.. i love it on you!!

  35. Firstly, LOVE the skirt! And secondly, that's a great feature that you're doing. Will dig up some photos of my fave outfit - though there are so many how will a girl choose?! Lol

  36. What a fun skirt. Mustard/gold would be my vote too. Have you try this before? I always worry with Ebay items that it won't fit.

  37. This skirt is gorgeous. Personally, I love matchy matchy, I do it all the time, but that's mostly because I don't have very much experience with colour. And your hair is looking super fabulous, I love the volume!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Love this skirt! And your hair!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You look SO CUTE! I love your hair today and the outfit is simply perfect :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love this skirt! It looks great the way you styled it.

I would pair it with navy, a lime green or maybe a pale pink. Who am I kidding!? I'd find some crazy floral patterned sweater with all three colors:O Of course, I realize not everyone wants to walk around looking like crazy cat lady!

    ReplyDelete
  41. omg, I love this skirt! And as for matching I would probably wear a white shirt tucked in and a blue cardigan. I think it'd be cute! :)

  43. That is a beautiful skirt. The only thing that I can offer in terms of advice is maybe a dark blue top. But I think others have already said this.

Don't you find it weird when you have a skirt that's a funky color and its hard to match, but if it was a cardigan that was the same funky color it would be easier? Or is it just me?

  44. Fabulous skirt! You look fantastic :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think it would look great with black obviosly, but also perhaps a blushy pink, or a mustardy yellow? A striped shirt would look cute! Be adventurous!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Did you do something different to your hair? It looks fab today!
Nothing wrong with matchy-matchy outfits - i love this combo. I'm a matchy-matchy person myself and not overly creative with my colour combos! I think it could also work with grey, but that might be a little boring for some people. I think some people mentioned navy too, which i think would look quite nice!

    ReplyDelete
  47. such a fun skirt! I was thinking the same thing as Jen- is your hair different?
maybe a small polka dot shirt would be cute with this or even a lighter shade of purple. looking good lady!

    ReplyDelete
  48. You look so pretty in this outfit!! The skirt looks amazing on you! I would try it with other neutrals like brown, navy, and gray. If you wanted to be a little more bold it would probably look sweet with light pink or you could even pair it with mustard or red!

  49. Oh how fun! I feel like I saw that skirt at Anthro a long time ago. It just looks so familiar. Either way, I like it a lot. I haven't actually delved into the world of Ebay shopping, but I always see so many bloggers with such cute finds that it makes me think I should!

  50. What a gorgeous skirt...That silhouette is fabulous on you!

  51. I love this skirt! I would have voted for navy or white or pretty much any colors really ;). But it's such a great backdrop for spring florals I think. So maybe you could find yellow rose blouse or something. Maybe just saying that cuz o want spring now!! :)
