Skirting the Anthro

As we Anthropologie lovers know, the retailer knows how to make a memorable dress. Unfortunately we can't all afford everything we love and - worse yet - not everything works on us. So it is good to know that other stores are taking notice and making versions of some of our favorite Anthro dresses in very reminescent skirt form! So if you've missed out on some pieces or if they sadly didn't work for you, maybe a skirt will do?

Suffice it to say that I may have already bit on one of these gorgeous inspired-by pieces and am seriously eyeballing one or two more ...

♥  Anthro Compeer dress as skirt: Cooperative textured knit skirt from UO

♥  Anthro Monochromatic Corset dress as skirt: chevron striped sway skirt from WHBM

♥  Anthro Spinning Lace dress as skirt: River Island lace skirt from ASOS

♥  Anthro Rising Vapors dress as skirt: Bobby J Scarlett cascade skirt from Alloy

♥  Anthro Mullany dress as skirt: polka dot skirt from Kate Spade (now on sale, only available in size 2)

♥  Anthro Discovered Lace dress as skirt: Peek Thru Lace skirt from Robert Rodriguez(now on sale)

Lastly, if you have your eye on the Anthro Apothecary skirt, the exact skirt is currently on sale at Dillard's as the Parameter printed skirt for more than 50% off the current Anthro retail price!

(Now that I'm sufficiently warmed up in my Google kung-fu, if there are other Anthro pieces that you'd like me to find doppelgängers for, just leave let me know and I'll put on my virtual Inspector Clouseau hat! though maybe Magnum PI is the better option because he's more contemporary - haha. Nothing wrong with rolling around Hawaii in a Ferrari 308 with the targa top down, wind blowing through my hair and Tom Selleck's mustache - sweeeeet.)

  1. Oh ho, I'm going to Dillard's today to check out the Parameter Skirt! Thanks for the heads up, Lisa! You have such a great eye, and I love all of these skirts to death!

  2. Oh, I want the lace skirt from ASOS! It is so pretty and I could see it working with so many things! I have actually been thinking about investing in more separates so that I can extend my wardrobe a little, and I think this one would be a perfect addition. :)

Also, great eye on the Parameter skirt. I still have a $100 gift card to Dillard's from Christmas burning a whole in my wallet. I might have to check this out!

  3. Great post! I especially love that first skirt. In fact, I think I actually like it better than the Compeer Dress!

  4. I loved watching Magnum PI when I was young. And Knight Rider too. Don't Hassel with the Hoff.

I want to know if there is a doppelgänger for the Darjeeling skirt. I know it's not a dress, but wondering if there is another version of it out there.

  6. Sweet Laundry - I'll take a look for you! As an immediate option, there is an Ebay seller touting a pseudo-darjeeling look-alike here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380307425215

  7. I love the river island lace skirt! I sadly missed out on the spinning lace dress (and have been stalking the anthro site for a popback). The skirt may even be a better, more versatile option. Great post!

  8. Ooh I love that lace skirt. I even like the skirt more than the dress itself! :) Thanks for this post!

  9. Ooh, I love skirt versions of dresses (because skirts are slliiightly superior to dresses in my book), and you highlighted some great matches! I think I might just need that River Island lace skirt! Anyway, great pos Lisa :)

  10. Lisa you are killing me! How can I stop shopping when I see all these pretties?!?

P.S. I am going to Mysore, India on Feb 9 to practice yoga for 6 weeks!

  11. Lisa! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have been crushing on the Apothecary skirt for sometime now, but just couldnt get myself to pull the trigger. Half price at Dillards? Done and Done!

Oh how I hate to take business away from my dear Anthro, but I do believe they get a sufficient amount of my household income.

    Thank you!!!!

    xoxo

  12. Those pieces are so nice. I don't own any items from Anthro just because they're so pricey. My favorite is the Anthro Monochromatic Corset dress. It has an interesting mixed patterns. Great post!

  13. Good finds, Lisa! I tend to get more uses out of skirts over dresses, so I'll be sure to check these out :)

  15. I love that first skirt from UO, but I'm always hesitant to order online because I'm not sure of sizing (and I don't want to pay for shipping). I'd go look for it in the store, but like Forever 21, that store stresses me out!

  16. I love this post...you found some amazing "replacement" pieces...I'm in love with a few of them now! You should make this a regular feature on your blog...you rock at it!

  17. I've totally been eying up that chevron skirt. It looks crazy flattering!

  18. Lisa you've got some fab comparisons here! I love Anthro, but the sales have to call my name in most cases. The red skirt up top and that little lace number are on my list and I'd totally get the alternatives. Thanks girl!

  19. Google Kung Fu! I love it! And I love that skirt, which I hadn't even noticed on Anthro's website, and I never would have found at Dillards on my own - you are a very useful (search) engine!

  22. Hmmm....very interesting! I do love Anthro but it's so very expensive. I'll just have to continue living vicariously through your blog ;) hee

  23. Thanks for your comments, ladies! I think I obviously spend way too much time perusing the web and have a tendency for my eyes to scan over to something familiar - so I guess Anthro-related?! ;o)

I did bite on the coral skirt because I missed out on the Compeer skirt - it's way cheaper, I don't have anything in that color and I agree with you all, I think skirts are more versatile.

It's hard to stay away from the lace skirt though - and that apothecary skirt has been on my Anthro wishlist too, sooo ...

  24. Sometimes skirts are better than the full dress if you're a very different size on top than bottom. Love the orange/coral UO skirt :-)

  25. Wow, Lisa, I love this! You've got some Google-fu skills for real! I am especially digging the Compeer and Mullany dresses-in-skirt-forms! Nice!!

  30. Oh my -- that River Island skirt is simply divine, in my opinion. It really does resemble the Spinning Lace dress. Thanks so much for tracking down these fantastic takes on Anthro dresses.
