Pale Merino

As much as I can huddle in the warmth of my home and play with the dog and BF, vendor meetings and shipments for events don't handle themselves even if the weather outside is still frightfully chilly and slippery. So yesterday I got dressed for real (all you ladies who live in the super-cold, slushy climes and still manage to wear skirts and pretty shoes every day - I bow before you, I'm not worthy!) to venture out.

I guess I stilled haven't mastered sweaterdresses with tights yet. Am I the only one that finds herself having to adjust the bottom of the dress because it sticks to the tights? Good thing most of my activities were done behind a desk so no one else has to watch me awkwardly adjusting myself every few minutes so that to ensure that when I do stand up, my skirt is not scrunched up around my waist. Perhaps I should try slicker smoother tights next time?

Dress: Merona by Target merino wool (similar-ish here)
Necklace: Anthropologie Grandma's Treasure Trove (worn here before - similar here or luxe here)
Belt: Anthropologie c/o Spiffy (worn here before - similar here or here)
Tights: Anthropologie Sunset Scrolls (worn here before - check stores, or similar-ish here or plain here)
Shoes: Seychelles Ring in the New Year (worn here before - similar here or funkier wedge here)

And because almost a single picture can't be taken without some semblence of my pup in it now apparently, here are some of my outtakes - Pacey like to sit by and look out the window and slobber all over my Marimekko pillows - which are now being used as the pup's day bed - the same ones that BF hates. Hm, coincidence?

  1. Lovely dress, I have the same problem with sweater dresses too. I am also the cowardly kind who rarely wears nice shoes out (we got 20 inches of snow yesterday) but I do change into them once I am at work.

Your pup is so adorable - I can probably use a nap on those pillows right now.

  2. Same thing happens to me. The soluction - a skirt slip. I had trouble finding one short and fitted enough but found the perfect one at Target. I use it all the time now!

  3. I have noticed that the material in the tights makes a difference with sweater dresses. If I wear nylon tights it sticks more than it does if I wear cotton or wool tights. :)

  4. You look gorgeous here Lisa! I love how you did your hair!

I have one sweater dress that does the same thing as yours - I usually wear some type of layering skirt underneath to keep it from sticking, since I don't own any slips!

  5. You look very cute in your outfit. A slip, that's the key. I have to admit I am not a dress person. To keep warm I rely on my lined wool flannel trousers (I have 3 pairs). Your puppy is so fashion conscious! Merimekko pillows, ha!

  6. I love those tights even if they could cause a wardrobe malfunction ;) You look so pretty!

  7. yes you need a slip. I carry one in my work bag for days I think I don't need one and then find myself with my skirt around my waist. Not a good look. Your sweaterdress looks soooo comfy. I'm fighting the urge to buy more sweater dresses-- must focus on spring desires/wants even though it's a blizzard nightmare outside!

  8. Happens to me all the time, too. Slip skirts are the way to go, my only problem is remembering to wear them! Love the belt on this outfit!

  9. Buy a slip pronto! It saves the sweaterdress sticking to tights problem!
Anthro has tons of half slips right now, and I see them at Target too :)
You look adorable - love the tights w/those shoes, and Pacey is soooo cute!

  10. You look so cute today - love that belt!! And everyone is right, a good ol' fashion slip is what you need! :)

  11. You should pick up a slip, that is how I keep my skirts from sticking to my tights, it's just remembering to wear it that is the key, ha...You can find reasonable priced ones at Kohls, JCPenney, etc--

  12. I have the same problem, but I wear slips underneath to counter the clinging. My favorite is the full slip from Gap because there isn't extra volume in the body of the slip, but it also isn't so skin tight that creeps up worse than the dress! Pacey is adorable btw!

  13. I have the same problem. It sounds like I need to pick up a slip!

Your puppy is the cutest thing ever! Really makes me want a puppy - however, with 3 dogs already, I think I have my hands full.

  14. I echo the other advice given here -- a slip is the solution! I had the same problem for a long time before I realized that a slip would prevent accidental flashing, haha! And I love Pacey, so cute!!

  15. I have the same problem too, but never wear a slip. Maybe I will take this advice, and get myself a slip ASAP. I love this sweater dress though. The neckline is gorgeous. And the belt goes great with it. This is one of my favourite outfits of yours for sure!

  17. Love the simplicity of the sweater dress with those awesome accessories! I love sweater dresses, and wear them with a slip (like others have mentioned) to prevent any accidents.

  18. NOTE TO SELF: Buy a dang slip!

Is it wrong that for some reason in my head I equate slips with older women and that is why I've never purchased one?

Like a character from Mad Men - not Betty Draper, like someone's mom - walking around in their cone bra and a mid-calf length slip that is hiked up high over their belly?

Yeah, forget the fact that pretty much no one sees them, they'll keep you from flashing the world, and some of them are plain ole pretty!

  19. I just bought my first slip at Target over the weekend and it's seriously a miracle worker! No more sticking and awkwardly "fixing myself" in front of co-workers. The ones at Target run pretty big though (at least the kind that I got)...I had to get an XS and you're smaller than me so you might be sized out. I'm sure plenty of other stores have them though or maybe Target has other versions that I didn't see.

  20. Pacey is just too adorable. He isnlt just peering out the window...he's doing a visual patrol as a part of his doggie security training. Soon he'll be barking at any and everything that comes near your house. How do I know???? Because it's Alex's full time jo. Lol. I love your sweater dress and those cute shoes. A slip will help with your problem.

  21. Ooooooh Lisa I do love the dress on you. The color is great and the tights are super cute...I don't know what to do about the sticking to the tights problem though. Where is spring when you need it??

    ps-ixnay on the vlogs!!

    xoxo,
    Carrie

  22. I like to wear really silky (versus cottony) tights if I know I'm going to be wearing a type of skirt that can catch on it. But... it's never very annoying to readjust for me.

Maybe I just do it anyways.

  23. Great tights, and fantastic belt!

  24. I always have to wear a slip with a sweater dress. I found a really great one from Macy's by Calvin Klein. I loved it so much I bought one in nude and black. They are simple but so neccessary to avoid static cling with a dress and tights.

I love the lights colors on you! The outfit is superb!

  25. Slips are a great problem solver! Anthro has some very cute ones, and they almost always go on sale. Your dog is freaking adorable!

  26. Love sweater dresses though they're not my go to dresses. Good thing you are setting yourself apart from all of us wearing black and dark stuff dear!

    I need colours!

    Stay Happy and Positive!

  27. You look gorgeous as usual (I can't imagine you looking anything less)!!

I am so thrilled that Trget will be opening 100 stores across Canada... and I mean thrilled!!

Yes, smoother textured tights work best, or a subtle little slip under the dress works nicely too.

Hope you are having a wonderful new year!

    xoxo Diana

  28. Love the pale tones! So rare in winter. This outfit is stunning!

And yes, the right slip is invaluable...

  29. Wowza! you look so good Lisa! Target is just fantastic for work gear.
As for the dress sticking to the tights, one of my colleagues taught me this little trick: rub a *little* bit of moisturiser on your tights to stop the cling. Not sure whether this would work with wool dresses, but it helped with my synthetics!

  30. Lisa, It's really easy to master sweaterdress and tights. It's called slippery slip. This look is absolutely darling. I was floored when I saw you. They say if wearing a sweater dress sweater tights are a no-no. And visa versa. So you hit the ground running with this fabulous outfit. The tights are so lacy and feminine. You look absolutely marvelous. You really have changed your style in the last few months. I am loving the change.

  31. OH MY! I love your sweaterdress! Must go to Target tomorrow!!! If they have this little sucker in black, I am getting it! You and your doggie are SOO cute. :) As for sweaterdresses clinging to tights, I haven't had that problem but then I'm not sure if I have any that are merino wool though.

  32. I have to say it, too. A slip. It's nice to get the full length ones that have the cami so you don't worry if the slip is sliding around. But a half slip works as well.

  33. Gorgeous tights! I have that same problem with sticky tights. Lovely outfit too of course :)
And Pacey is the best accessory.

  34. I love the simplicity of the dress contrasted against the intricacy of your tights. Such a flawless combo. And you're wearing the Treasure Trove necklace -- which reminds me that I need to pull mine out again. it really is a gorgeous necklace!!!

  35. I love that dress on you! Great choice of shoes as well.

Also, I ordered some lovely slips from Vintage Hem. They really helped solve the stick-to-legs issue, and they're pretty, too.

  36. yeah, i can't get the hang of the tights/sweater dress thing either. i always think i'll try rubbing a fabric softener sheet and then i just end up pulling the dress off my butt.
you look quite cute, tho. shoes are awesome. :)

  37. I have the same problem and am not quite sure how to remedy it! You look super cute though :)
