Pretty Please?

I'm sitting here at the lounge in LAX passing the time before I need to board my 20 HOUR LONG flight to Asia (mixed emotions here, ladies - super-excited about my trip, not hot on all the time I'll be logging in a big metal tube at 40,000ft).

But with some time to kill, I've got to catch up on some blog reading - and found out I'm in the running to run some beautiful jewelry from Tara's last giveaway! If you have a sec, please take a look at the candidates - and pretty please vote for me? You can check out the great line-up of fall garb and put in your vote HERE.

And if you haven't found Tara's fantastic Anthro-centric blog yet, please check out Little Girl Big Closet! Her outfits are gorgeous and I always always get jealous pangs staying at her thick glossy locks - le sigh!

I've Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates

OK, this post has nothing to do with that 70's song by Melanie Safka, but who hasn't seen and instantly fell in love with that new HP printer commercial with the happy baby?! I can't get "Brand New Key" out of my head, and now the BF is in fear of me wanting a real baby bump because I adore the expressions on that commercial baby - no worries, BF, I am perfectly happy with just my food baby.

I did have the song rolling through my head this morning though as I was getting dressed though - this knit top is probably more appropriate for a lazy Sunday lounging but happy baby song inspired me to be super-cas and wear it for TGIF!

Top: UO Truly Madly Deeply Owl pullover
Skirt: Banana Republic herringbone knife pleat (worn here before)
Tights: Anne Klein

Sorry, folks, no Other People's Blogs post today (and probably for a while - I'm so sorry!) as this week has completely gotten away from me and I am way behind on my blog trolling. I may be in and out of blogee land for the next two weeks as well since I'm heading off to Asia tomorrow for some back-to-back biz trips, argh! I feel so behind on everything! And how is a gal to pack when almost half her suitcase is already spoken for with work-related things?!

Respect the Outfits (your favorite)

Don't you love it when an outfit just comes together? When whatever you have on makes your feel at your best and helps to make an already terrific day even better? This week's Respect the Outfits post focuses on just that - Your Favorite outfit. And here are the beautiful women who have shared their favorite outfit:

♥  Amy from kelinda.KELINDA: I wore this outfit back in June, before I even moved out of my parents' house! I loved it because of all the crazy patterns it had going on -- polka dots, stripes, studs, lace. It kept things interesting, that's for sure! And the fact that it also combined 3 of my favorite things to wear (pencil skirt, cardigan, belt) only made it that much better!

Top: sailing stripes blouse, anthropologie
Sweater: lace-trim cardigan, just ginger
Skirt: dotted skirt, j.crew
Shoes: striped wedges, lela rose for payless
Belt: studded leather belt, j.crew

♥  Peggy from She Hath Done What She Could:

Dress: Anthropologie Dagmar

♥  Kim from Anthroholic: Here's one of my favorite outfits. I wore this last Winter, and I felt so pretty and girly in it, plus I kept getting stopped and complimented, which makes any girl feel good :) One woman actually asked me if it was a dress, or if I had come up with the combo myself! This is definitely something I'll rewear as much as I can.

♥  JoAnn from Sidewalk Chalk: I have many different "favorite" dresses, but this may be my best combination. I like that it includes my love of vintage, modern ruffles, and florals. I was so happy in this outfit!

Strapless dress: Laura Ashley, thrifted, vintage (1980s)
Sweater, belt: LOFT
Shoes: Zigi Soho

♥  LynnieLou from Besos, Lynn:

♥  AppGal from Musings on the Mountain: I loved this outfit because of the really fun color contrasting. I think navy and ochre go really well together. Even though this was the day I was called a vampire it was one of my favorite outfits because I felt so confident in it! The print is unique on the skirt, but the button-down pulled it together to make the outfit very professional.

Top: J.Crew haberdashery shirt in wild blackberry
Skirt: J.Crew Ochre Ikat skirt
Shoes: Seychelles "Her Majesty" pumps

♥  Cindi from Simply Cindi: Here's one of my favorite outfits!!! I'm submitting this one partly because this was one of the last things I wore right before I got married. It was my rehearsal dinner dress. Not only did I get a great deal for it, but it made me feel so pretty when I really needed it. Who doesn't want to feel pretty right before their wedding day right? I'm excited to wear this again and recreate that feeling!

Dress: Anthropologie Drifting By Dress
Cardigan: Nordstrom Halogen Bling Button Cardigan
Shoes: Sofft Suede Pumps

♥  Ally from Modestly Fashioned: I loved this outfit because it was so polished and made me feel so put together! I feel so much more confident when I feel like I look my best:)

White Undershirt: Elzee (Brooklyn, NY)
Vest: H & M
Skirt: Target
Jacket: Banana Republic
Necklace: Gift from R
Tights: Century 21 (Hue)
Shoes: Zappos (Minnetonka)
Belt: Gap

♥  E Hayes from Strawberry Swing and Other Things: I wore this outfit last month to a friend's baby shower, I just felt like it was the perfect outfit for the event - sweet and feminine.

Blouse: J.Crew Silk Frances Cami in Ivory
Skirt: Nordstrom Hinge
Shoes: Banana Republic Sonya Huarache Wedges
Belt: Anthropologie Snakebite
Necklace: RitzyMisfit Initial Stamp (via etsy)

♥  Liz from lizzypunch: My recipe for a favorite/comfy/stylish outfit is all black+cute shoes+denim+a bright+special accessories like my gifted bag and bangle!

♥  Cat from anthrosdottir: I was going to go with something more recent, but then I remembered this outfit and it's truly one of my faves because it has all the individual pieces are my favorites. This coat - I LOVE and would like to wear it everyday if possible. Same with the hat, boots, and jeans.

♥  Jen from vintageglammz: This is by far my fave. I often have those "off" days even when I'm wearing a brand new dress. But this particular dress made me feel beautiful. Simply because I got married in it! When else do I get the chance to wear something long, white and lacy, complete with a tulle headwear? And how often do I get to wear Vera Wang other than in perfume form? Best of all, just knowing I was marrying the man I loved made me feel like the luckiest girl in the world!

Dress and corsage belt: Vera Wang
Shoes: Stuart Weitzman

♥  Ady from growing up: This is my favorite dress. It is called the Surrealist dress and my best friend bought it for me when I was going through a hard time. At the time, I could not afford an expensive dress from Anthropologie. Every time I wear it, I think of her and I think about how much she cares about me. Somehow, that gives me a confidence boost. I always get compliments when I wear this dress, but a part of me wonders if it because it is an awesome dress or because I feel so great wearing it that I always smile. :)

♥  EE from eek!: I wore this to what turned out to be a surprise birthday party for me back in May. I love the pink plaid on the dress and it has pockets! My Gucci platforms I bought last year and they make me feel superfabulous :)

Dress: Banana Republic Outlet
Shoes: Gucci
Necklace: Anthropologie

♥  Jamie from Thrifty Threads: I think there are a few reasons why I love this outfit: This dress always makes me feel like a million bucks. It has a flattering cut and is made of high quality fabric with a unique texture. This is one of the first "yellow" outfits that I have worn. Long ago, I convinced myself that yellow looks terrible on me. I've slowly tried to break myself of that assumption and incorporate more yellow into my style. The shoes are perfect (even their name proclaims this to be the case!). High heeled, but comfortable and professional. The outfit is appropriate for many settings: the office, a nice dinner out, a family function, etc.

Dress: Shoshanna
Cardigan: Old Navy
Belt: Talbots
Shoes: Ann Taylor Elle Perfect Pump

♥  Tricia from Tricia's Take:

♥  Cindy from Closet Comforts: It was my favorite from the summer and since I'm feeling all sorts of nostalgia for those months right now, I knew it'd be my submission (: It's the first time I put something together that clicked without me thinking it would (black and white polka dots and a green cardigan?) and made me a lot more interested in putting together outfits instead of just throwing on a dress on and calling it a day. Though I still do that.

Dress: H&M Polka Dot
Sweater: Anthropologie Blooming Lattice Cardigan
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Style&co Mary Jane Heels

♥  Laura from Anthro Closet Chaos: This was a tough choice. I decided to go for the most recent. I accidentally put this Sweater Dress with the Cardi while I was tearing through my closet looking for outfit ideas for my Reader's Challenge.

Sweater: Anthropologie Great Length - by Sparrow - 2009
Cardigan: Anthropologie Vines and Buds in Beige - by Charlie and Robin - 2010
Necklace: Anthropologie Ribbon Rays - by Tataborello - 2010
Tights: Anthropologie Striped Sweater in Red - by Eloise - 2010
Boots: Anthropologie Malted Barley - by Area Forte - 2009

And here's my favorite outfit from recent memory (though this doesn't compare to what all these gorgeous ladies have put together!) this outfit was nothing special other than regular weekday workwear, but I remember feeling fantastic in it. And I don't usually do silk dresses, but this one made me feel frilly and "sumptuous" - in fact, I may need to break this out again with some tights for winter!

Dress: Anthropologie Floreat Castle Lake
Sweater: Anthropologie Guinevere Roaming Frills
Belt: J. Crew metallic skinny
Shoes: Sofft Giovanna

Thanks to everyone who has participated this week - I am overwhelmed by the wonderful responses, and all your fantastic outfits! I can definitely see why these are some of your favorite looks!

Stay tuned for next week's edition, as we take things back to your perfectly imperfect outtakes (so save your funniest)!

Theresa's Wallpaper

When I was in elementary school, my family moved next door to a lovely older widow whose grown children lived scattered across the country. We all instantly meshed - my dad would help her around her house and us kids (i.e., me as my big sis was always conveniently absent) used to shovel her walk when it snowed. In return, she made us all sorts of treats and even sewed dresses for little ole 9 year-old Lisa. As a latchkey kid, she often invited me to her house after school and I would have tea with her in her living room - which to my little eyes was an ornate and grown-up fantasy land.

She loved to collect things and do crafts, so her living room was a testiment to her skills - embroidered pillows, cushions and artwork; porcelain Hummel dolls merticulously placed in a trio of floor-to-ceiling cherry and glass display cases; hand-sewn dolls lined a bookcase; her tea set was painted Chinaware; there were tassels and gilding and richness everywhere.

Miss Theresa was a lovely, and much loved, neighbor for several years before she decided to move to be closer to her daughter a state away. We continued to stay in touch with her and even took a few family trips to visit her. We were never forgotten during the holidays and care packages came for several years. She passed peacefully in her sleep around Christmas-time when I was in college.

This pattern really isn't my typical style but I was instantly reminded of our afternoon teas and my neighbor's ornate living room, the richness of her life. This is what her walls looked like, if only in my childhood memories.

Multiplication Tables

I'm a firm believer in buying multiples - if you find something that you love and works, heck yeah, you should buy it in different colors and iterations. Shoot, if you really love it, I'm even for buying more than one of the exact same thing.

I definitely live by what I "preach," and going through my wardrobe will find one stumbling through multi carbon copies of items that fit me well and I adore: Take the Roaming Frills cardi - I have it in red and blue, and think it is a great complementary piece to any dress or high-waisted skirt. Or the Lands' End Canvas gingham shirts - I have them in blue, navy and pink and they are my go-to button-down. And the Artisan by Clarks bow flats - rubber soles and cushioned insoles? How could I not get them in black ... and silver ... and red ... and peach even!

I know in the spirit of spending one's money on interesting and rare finds, buying multiples kind of takes away from the unique nature of each piece, especially since I'm not just refering to basics here. But I often have a hard time finding pieces that fit me well, so when I do come upon the fashion equivalent to love in a skirt or sweater and see it offered in different shades (which totally changes the mood of a piece!), how can I refuse the siren's song?

I can't be alone in thinking this way (or can I?). What do you think of buying multiples? And if you do it too, what items do you like to buy up and hoard in your closet as an act of "collecting?" And that definitely includes you, Pamela, and your teetering tower of tank tops! ;o)

Top: Anthropologie Guinever Roaming Frills cardigan (worn here before - similar online here or here)

It's Still Monday - And Next Reader Post

It is full blown morning here in the SE but it is still dim as heck outside because of the rain. So in lieu of an outfit today (because shorts, a tee and and a hoodie for errand-running does not a real outfit make) here's an outfit I wore to a local trade show last week - tons of walking, so comfy shoes were definitely in order:

Cardigan: J. Crew Sunshine Peony (worn here and here before)
Top: Banana Republic sweetheart tee
Skirt: Banana Republic factory store (worn here and here before - similar-ish online here)
Shoes: Artisan by Clarks Herring bow flats (worn here before - similar online here and here)
Necklace: Ann Taylor Loft mesh chain (now on sale - worn here before)

Thanks to all you wonderful ladies who participated in my reader feature last week - we'll definitely do outtakes again next week, so please hold on to your perfectly imperfect pics!

For this week's Respect the Outfits post, send your favorite outfit - Whether it was for a black-tie ball or Saturday soccer practice, what you have worn that has made you feel your best?

Please shoot me your outfit pic along with (if you like) your outfit details and a brief description of why you love your particular outfit - you can send everything to respecttheshoes(at)live.com. Remember to scan your blog archives - most of my own fave outfits have been OOTDs. Post will go up on Thursday!

That 70's Dress

I'm probably the last person in the Anthro blog community to try these dresses on, but I snagged them during this week's sale (plus one off Ebay) and wanted to get your opinion on whether or not I should keep one of them. Can you guess by my title which dress I'm questionable about?  ;oP

♥  Anthropologie Edme & Esyllte Sugar-Coated shirtdress (now on sale $59.95 - no longer online) : I took my true size in this and the fit was about right. What did I like? I like the colors are perfect for fall and winter, the comfort were great, the cotton fabric was not too heavy and skirt wasn't crazy full. The length was also good on my 5' 2" frame.

Things that I don't love about the dress? I wish it wasn't a spread collar, which makes me feel like I need to wear something underneath since I'm not exactly appreciatively endowed up high. Also, with the bodice area-only buttons and the side zip, it was strangely difficult to get out of - I guess my shoulders are pretty wide? I spent time more time than I wanted with the dress hunched right around my shoulders trying to undo the arm ties to get more leverage - big fun.

And the print ... I still can't figure out if I am in love with or hate the print. Half the time while wearing this dress, I was expecting Kelso and Hyde to come waltzing into my room holding out a doobie for me.

So what do you think - keep, or "blech" send this back?!

♥  Anthropologie Nell Couture June, July, August dress (now on sale $69.95): I've wanted this dress forever and thought it'd be June 2011 before it would finally go on sale. This is another comfy-as-heck knit pullover dress (with pockets!), but I have to admit to being a tad disappointed with the fabric when I got it - for the original price, I thought it'd be lined like the Perilla dress or at least a more substantial knit. However, this is one of those dresses I can probably pack into a ball for two days and still be able to pull out to wear. Keep!

♥  Anthropologie "Heck if I Know" dress from Moulinette Soeurs: I've never seen this dress before so I have no idea what it is called, but got it off Ebay recently. It is navy blue with a faint plaid pattern in deep red/brown and is lined in fuchsia. It is not stretchy, but has great ruched details along the sleeves and neckline. The fit is spot on for me, I can't wait to wear this dress for work!

Respect the Outfits (Outtakes)

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I put together my outfit posts I will usuall select the best two-three pics from the bunch to use (you know, the ones that make me look as long and lean as my stubby body will allow). The vast majority of the cast-off pics consist of me goofing off or realizing my skirt is tucked into my tights or standing in the one completely dark spot of the house or making a face even a mother wouldn't love - and those suckers usually get deleted straight away.

But as blogging is all about sharing and we're all human, I thought our photo "bloopers" would be a great subject for the debut of my new feature: Respect the Outfits - Outtakes edition.
