Show some of your Crew pride and share a few of your favorite pieces in an outfit pic. You can be clad in a single fabulous piece you adore to head-to-toe Crew! Show a fantabulous glamour ensemble or how you wear Crew daily.

A Je Ne Sais Sway Day

Well today has turned itself into a mighty good Anthro sale day - except nothing I wanted went on sale and I had been itching to get some goodies on discount. Oh well, my wallet is safe for another day!

I did end up breaking out my two last new purchases from Anthro (I know, I know, I just bought some stuff from them and I'm still looking for a sale to buy more?) today though, to battle the dreary overcast skies. I hadn't jumped on the Acting Out skirt bandwagon until this iteration, and I can finally see why all you gals were loving it - I was feeling kind of va-va-voom in this skirt even if I don't look it, ha! And wave hello to my first purple shirt - can we say all sorts of love here?

Top: Anthropologie Deletta Je Ne Sais Scarf
Skirt: Anthropologie Cartonnier Alluring Sway (similar online here)
Belt: UO Deena & Ozzy stretch (worn here and here before - similar online here or here)
Tights: UO graphic scroll (similar online here)
Shoes: Franco Sarto suede Gamble mary janes (similar online here or here)

I'll be amongst the ranks of the still-working-a-full-day-tomorrow folks so for all your lovelies departing for your lovely turkey adventures early, have a wonderful long holiday weekend! Appreciate your families! Get loads of sale goodies - it is a good thing to spoil yourself every now and again! And of course calories don't count on Thanksgiving!

Just Another Manic

I'm a fan of turkey day goodness and spending time with the family as much as everyone else, but I have to admit this year is going to be a slightly strange one. My sister and her fam have gone to Disney World to spend their week with the big bad Mouse. BF's sis and her fam are spending their time with her hubby's in-laws. My parents have relatives from overseas over and will be spending turkey day dinner at a restaurant. The BF and I are going over to his mom's place where we'll spend the day with her and her hubby - but she's got a bad knee and is currently in a wheelchair ... and she wants us to come over early on Thursday so we can help with dinner (i.e., so we can cook dinner) (i.e., so we can cook what she wants for dinner).

OK, no I am not implying that I am going to have a bad time this Thanksgiving as the awesome thing is that BF's family and I get along famously. However, you've got to admit the thought of going over to someone else's home for a momentous meal and being asked to cook their food for them? Yeah ...

So is it wrong that I what I am really looking forward to is waking up bright and early this Friday and  flipping open the laptop from the comfort of my bed (OK, the bed from the guest bedroom at BF's mom's place) so I can - crowd-free - peruse the online offerings from my fave retailers (i.e., clothes, shoes, clothes, shoes)?

So ladies, are you planning to do any shopping this Black Friday and ensuing weekend? Are there particular items/stores you'll be stalking?

Here's what I wore to go shopping this weekend:

Jacket: Anthropologie Cartonnier Flipside (worn here and here before - similar online here and here)
Top: J. Crew graphic milliner tee (worn here before - similar online here)
Jeans: Banana Republic classic skinny (worn here and here before - similar online here)
Boots: Bed Stu Bullet (similar online here)

And here is what I am wearing today with one of my new Anthro purchases (and admittedly questionable hair):

Top: Anthropologie Odille Bianka
Pants: J. Crew trouser cord
Shoes: Aerosoles Triple Play
Belt: Forever 21 metallic bead skinny (worn here before - similar online here)
Earrings: Target

Cupcakes and Cashmere recently featured a recipe for miniature banana tarte tatins from Balthazar, which reminded me that I made a full size version of his dessert a few weeks ago from a much simpler (aka kindergarten cook-friendly) recipe that I had forgotten to share.

I'm a big fan of puff pastry and the BF's inner monkey digs the bananas so I thought what could be better than to blend our loves into one creamy flaky treat? The end result was not as pretty as what was pictured on the Saveur site where I got the recipe, but it does make for a simple cozy-night dessert. Here's a few pics of my banana tarte tatin:

Gloriously Inglorious

Fashion blogging has been a styling revelation for me, because not only has it given me the courage to wear pieces outside of my comfort zone, but I've found innumerable real-life fashion inspirations in my fellow bloggers. This has been incredibly helpful in the way I see how to put clothes together and how to wear them, especially since I've never been able to extract the same sort of inspiration before from the styleboards of yore (aka fashion mags, pop culture, movies/TV, etc.).

Until that is, I watched Glorious 39. It is a BBC film about a well-to-do political family in 1939 Britain as Hitler is gaining power in Europe and another war looms. But the movie is really besides the point, because all I really cared about were those gorgeous period costumes.

{images courtesy of A Plus B in the Sea}

The plot was actually quite meh-worthy, but I've never watched a movie or TV show before this that actually made me want a character's entire wardrobe and had me scratching my head in my closet trying to figure out how to recreate her look (not even The Devil Wears Prada, because all I did through that film was drool over the Chanel boots and think of how squat, frizzy-headed and unclacker-like I was - ah, good times). My outfit today is (hopefully) my modern, more casual interpretation of the character Anne Keyes' chic English style.

So how about you? Have you ever watched a film or show that fashionably-inspired you to dress a certain way? If so, what was it?

Cause I Am Barely Breathing

I guess it is the extreme time change in coming home again, but I'm having a hard time getting back to the groove of things this week. Between closing things out from last week's conference, a mondo expense report, millions of minutia items, laundry, and two more events coming up in the next few weeks, I feel sooooo swamped.

However, it is so nice to have my full closet back at my disposal and my snuggly own warm bed! And as much as I enjoy trying new things and eating Chinese food, there's no substitute for a down-home fried chicken or greasy thin-crust pizza craving. And my own BF to hug and laugh with (even though all he's interested in doing lately is conquering the new Call of Duty: Black Ops game - sigh, boys).

After you've been away from home for a bit, what do you most look forward to when coming back?

Top: Forever 21 H81 brushed plaid (worn here and here before)
Sweater: Ann Taylor marled wool shrug
Skirt: J. Crew wool bungalow (on sale at Factory store - or longer version online here)
Tights: Anne Klein
Shoes: Vince Camuto Bronco (worn here and here before)
Necklace: J. Crew crystal cylinder

I do still plan to do another Respect the Outfits post this week though - for Friday. Since it was such a fun post seeing everyone's blog photo "bloopers," we're going back to Outtakes! So pretty please send me your best blog photo outtakes by late Thursday and I'll be putting up another post on Friday with you gals rockin' your finest gear and funniest pics.

Pics can be sent to: respecttheshoes (at) live.com.

Paradise Lost

Hey ladies, I'm back! After two exhaustive weeks in Singapore and then Hainan Province, I finally touched US soil again this morning - and blogs were blocked in China, so I had to go radio silent, argh!

I already shared a brief pic medley of my time Singapore, so below is another brief medley of my time on Hainan Province. And yes, though the work part was exhausting, I do have about fourteen mosquito bites on my legs and I am currently sick thanks to the wheezing sniffly gal who sat next to my on one of my flight legs home, it was a fantastic trip and I am so glad I had the opportunity to go.

I've stayed in my share of "holy moly craptastic" to "ain't half bad" hotel rooms. This hotel in Sanya however, was beyond. I could've stayed in my room the entire trip but how could I avoid playing on the beach?! I have never stayed in so nice of a hotel and I am begging our guys to go back again next year - pretty puh-lease!

I've had my share of delish Chinese fare - and then much too much of the baijiu and some just absolutely questionable items as well!

Fashion in the tropical clime of Hainan Province? Um ...

Nan Shan Cultural Park, which is the largest Buddhist preaching site established by the People's Republic, and houses the 108m tall Guan Yin Buddha (taller than the Statue of Liberty!) plus several temples. It is a beautiful, but psuedo-strange environment that is a cross between a Buddhist theme park and actual place of prayer.

And it houses a vegetarian restaurant that specializes in mock meat foods. Good, but slightly weird again!

It'll probably take me a bit, but I'll be catching up on reading all your blogs this week!
