Brief Gingham Meeting

Top: Lands' End Canvas gingham poplin (worn here and here before)
Skirt: Delicia eyelet via Alloy (worn here, here and here before)
Shoes: Mossimo by Target wedges (worn here, here and here before)
Belt: cheapie via Ebay

Late last week I got my Brief Meeting blazer in from Anthropologie. I typically have to be really tempted to buy anything for full price at Anthro, but the overall good reviews from other bloggers and seriously dwindling online inventory got my mouse-clicking fingers too itchy and I finally had to scratch.

Oh boy, I had no regrets on this purchase, ladies. What a great basic-but-not blazer that would be great for work and play. I love the shape it gives me (a full skirt is probably not the best blazer companion though) and the ruched sleeves. I do recommend sizing up if you plan to wear anything underneath though - I tried my usual size in store and though it fit perfectly in the shoulders, it was too tight across the chest to close even just the top buttons comfortably (and I am not exactly ample in that area). I ended up purchasing one size up and though it is a wee bit loose overall, I am definitely happier with the fit.

If any of you gals are considering this jacket, don't wait too long - they seem to be going fast!

Now we'll see how much my resolve can hold out before I "have to have" the Alma Mater jacket and Peppered & Striped skirt, because I don't think those items will ever make it to sale either!

Any new fall arrivals from Anthro, J. Crew or any other retailer seriously tempting you?

  1. I adore the gingham and white! It's such a sweet look and you look fantastic in it.

That blazer is incredible too! I wish I had the money to buy anything from Anthro at all! :)

  3. This outfit is awesome! I love gingham button ups - I've been looking for something similar forever to pair with pencil skirts, but I haven't found any that fit me. You look great in the blazer, too!

  4. Great look today! I think I "need" a gingham shirt :)

After doing my 30-for-30 challenge, I've decided not to buy full price, esp. at places like Anthro. The majority of their things go on sale and if they run out I chalk it up as it was not meant to be. Fabulous purchase though - I'm sure you will get a lot of wear out of it!

  10. I have a similar but darker colored ginham button up that I always forget about! I need to start wearing it more often.

  11. I love gingham! and eyelet! You are combining two of my favorite things in the world and you look so cute doing it.

Can I ask what size jacket you ended up purchasing from Anthro?

  12. What a cute look! Love the blue and yellow combo. The jacket is also adorable!

  15. I love the yellow of the shoes with the blue of the top, and that outfit just seems so bright and summery. Great look!

  16. Thanks for your lovely comments, ladies. I'm flattered you all like my outfit, and actually surprised I didn't get any Dorothy from Oz comments since that was the first thing that popped to mind as I was dressing! But that's a good thing that the yellow veered you all off the Oz analogies, I was seriously tempted to wear red, but then I might as well have worn two braids in my hair and carried a basket too!

Melissa/Eek - I've actually been on the lookout for a new blazer I could wear to shows for work, so when I found this, it seemed like a perfect fit for me. Double duty jacket that is actually less expensive than some of the other blazers I've been looking at, yes, please!

Hi Elle - I usually get a size 2 for most brands at Anthro and I got a 4 here. It is my first purchase from the Sine brand so I don't know if they usually run small or not, but overall I felt comfier in the larger size.

  18. Cute outfit. LOVE the blazer and ended up exchanged my Falling in Love Vest to get it. It is a better investment for my wardrobe. Absolutely obsessed with the Learning Curve Dress. I called the 800# and was told it was unlikely to be in stores and inventory is going fast. I ordered it only because of the free shipping and return since I live close to several Anthro stores. If it is not absolute perfection-it goes back. It is really expensive but I know I'd regret not at least trying it. I'll post a review on my blog.

  19. I absolutely love your eyelet skirt. It is wonderful. Even though I should probably say something about the gingham, my eyes are fixed on the eyelet!! And I love your new jacket too...thankfully there's next to nothing affordable in the new J.Crew catalog so I'm in the clear!!

    xoxo,
    Carrie
ps-thanks for your kind bday wishes!! :)

  20. Some key pieces do warrant purchasing FP. Clearly that jacket is one of them!!!! I love it! It fits you wonderfully.

  21. I wish I could wear a button up shirt like you- I look like a man, how do you do it?
I am never tempted by jcrew- except I got the catalogue yesterday and I think I went through it 3 times. I want the jacket on page 3 and the boots on page 31 in grey- I just shared my notes, your turn :)

  22. WOW! That blazer is truly awesome! I saw it on Anjali and Roxy too and it seems to be the sort of blazer that looks terrific on everybody.

I am considering the Discovering Lace dress at full price. I am worried because inventory seems to be getting lower and lower... but I am still trying to wait.

  23. I love the first outfit with the gingham top! So cute! I'm definitely craving a lot of pieces from J.Crew this fall. Too many to count LOL Have a good week!

  25. That blazer was worth every penny! You look adorable. xo

  26. Adorable OOTD - you are the absolute cutest in gingham! Did I tell you I finally found my size in the J.Crew gingham shorts? They popped back online and I clicked away...

You look terrific in that blazer too - that is a totally classic and timeless piece! I was a weakling and ordered the Southward Stop Dress this weekend - I figured with it selling like hotcakes, it won't go on sale for a looooooong time and I might as well get it and enjoy it now!

  27. Tried on the blazer but didn't buy it as I thought it was a tad overpriced (in Canadian $)...your post is making me think really hard now...

  30. Lisa,

Sorry I am always so late commenting since I live on the West coast. I never dreamed gingham could be so versitile.

I checked your other 2 posts wearing the gingham. Really love the denim pencil on you. You should wear pencil skirts more often. So flattering. And I always love your belted looks.

I wore a belt with a dress in my Saturday Post.
I was hoping you would see and comment. I totally love the way you do a belt. So easily!

I'm in love with your Brief Meeting Blazer. I want it!

  31. Lisa, the Brief Meeting Blazer looks wonderful on you, especially with the Gingham. I tend to stay away from Double Breasted Blazers (for me, I think they add volume where I don't need any more!), but this one is just too cute!

  32. Thanks for your comments on the blazer, ladies. I figured since I can do double duty with this jacket by wearing it for work that it warranted full price. And OK, sheer lust had something to do with it too!

JulieStyles - I had high hopes for the Falling in Love vest but it really let me down IRL. The ruffles were overwhelming! I agree that the Brief Meeting jacket is a piece that will be more versatile and better investment. I can't wait to see you in the Learning Curve dress!

Spiffy - I've a bit button-up fan, but I always have to "tweak" it a bit with the rolled up sleeves and wearing it tucked into something that usually hits at my normal waist. Otherwise I look like a boy. I think JC's perfect shirts and Lands' End Canvas shirts have the slimmer cuts that have been more flattering too. And ooh, JC fall catalogue is lovely. The piece I want the most is their tweedy-look Thandie blazer, but I'm personally refusing to pay $150 for a knit unlined jacket! I do normally love their fitted fall blazers though!

Jan - yay for the gingham shorts! I think they're an easy colorful piece that brings interest to a normal tee and shorts outfit. And I can't wait to see you in the Southward dress - a lot of other bloggers seem to be snatching that piece up too (ugh, too bad the color of that dress just totally washes me out, I really like the cut).

Aw, thanks, Laura. Belts have become my fashion savior because they give the illusion of shape to my boyish figure. Pencil skirts have been on my to-get list for fall, I think I need more pairs too! And I'll go check out your Sat post - I always love how you put outfits together.

Jamie - Thanks! I usually stay away from the double breasted to, but I think due to the more cropped and fitted shape and bc it is meant to be left open in the button, I think it is more flattering than the traditional double breasted jackets. But if it does add volume up top for me, I need it! ;o)
