Hearty Castle Boots

Here's a Sunday post McMedley for you ladies:

Over the weekend the lovely Kim from Anthroholic held a virtual party to celebrate her one year blogiversary. Here's what I "wore" to the lovely affair (check out all the other gals here):

Dress: Anthropologie Floreat Castle Lake (worn backwards, worn forwards before here)
Belt: Urban Outfitters (worn here, here and here before)
Shoes: Nine West Temani patent wedges (worn here and here before)

Like Pamela mentioned in a recent post, it feels mildly strange to be making fall purchases in the dead of summer. But I've already made a purchase for the dead of winter, and I guess I've now officially become an Ugg convert (Pam Anderson and I finally have something in common now, haha). They are so warm and comfy that I don't think that I would care if they don't look so good on me. Meet my furry new best friend, Desoto:

I had also purchased a pair of casual suede boots - Nine West Frollic boots. Within two second of opening the box I knew those shoes and I were never meant to be friends. Beware, ladies, these boots are really casual - as in the shaft is made up of unlined suede, so it is really wide and has absolutely no shape. So now, of course, I'm in a search for a comfy pair of brown boots for fall. Am considering the Frye Harness boots, but doubt I am biker-chic enough to pull them off (or wallet-rich enough) - you gals have recommendations?

Lastly, if you gals are looking for a quick and filling one-pot meal that even the kids will eat ('cause my BF ate it and had seconds, and he's got about the eating habits of a 4th grader), here's one for you gals - heartland beef and rice.

I made this a few days ago and originally found my recipe from the Desparation Dinners! cookbook, but luckily found a typed recipe list online. The only thing I changed about it was that I sauteed the onions and green peppers for a few minutes before adding the beef, used white cheddar, and then dotted our portions with some Sriracha hot chili sauce for some zing.

  1. Okay - I need to know: what did you do to adjust the neckline on your Castle Lake Dress? I absolutely love it!

  2. Hi Kathleen - I'm not crafty, so all I did was put the dress on backwards, undo the knot and then tie the extra strap around my neck halter-style. I was totally experimenting but actually really like it. However, I do have a small chest, so for you normal-chested gals, the fit may be tight to wear the dress backwards.

  3. Lisa those boots will come in so handy this winter. I've also started my fall and winter wishlist and plan on purchasing the Frye Paige Tall Riding Boot in dark brown.

  4. That dress is great on you, and I love how creative you are by wearing it backwards! That's awesome that you love your Uggs. I am relatively new to Uggs too. I got mine 2 years ago and during the winter, I practically live in them. I think it's one of those things that you criticize, but then once you actually try a pair, it's all over. That food looks so good too. I love trying new recipes. This one looks really hearty and filling--it will be good for our cold MN winters.

  5. I found my dream boots at a Banana Republic outlet! I also have lots of luck at Target. The price is right, the quality is good for trends. also, if u live near a Shoe Carnival, they have a mish-mosh of designers for a thrifty price!
    The dress is lovely :)

  6. clever girl, doing the backward dress. sadly, i just do goofy things like wear my dresses inside out....
love the boots! i, too, am an ugg convert. it helps that ugg is making the boots more streamlined. i bought a canvas pair with buttons that i can wear a lot here in the hot desert.
the fun thing about making winter purchases now, is that when the weather does finally turn, it's like christmas because you forget about all the good stuff you got months ago!

  7. I love your Castle Lake Dress - I actually got to try that one on in several sizes, but it just didn't fit my upper body at all, and I had to let it go. I was so so bummed!! But you look terrific in it, and I LOVE the belt you've paired it with!! So elegant!

And this is too funny - I was actually looking at the very same Frye boots at Nordies online a few days ago. I've been in full boot-shopping mood lately, and those are one of the pairs that I favorited. So they get a thumbs up from me.

Might I also suggest these Børns? http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3099270?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=Born+crown&origin=searchresults

They are similar in look, come in several colors, plus they are still on sale.

  8. The Castle Lakes dress is a dream on you - fits your figure perfectly! And I was an instant convert when I slipped into my Ugg too - ahhhhhhh they are heaven. I'll have to check out that yummy recipe!

  9. I think I really want a pair of Uggs, that I definitely don't need as it's rarely ever cold enough here! Looking forward to fall...

  10. That dress is absolutely gorgeous on you! And I actually really like your Uggs!

P.S. Thanks for the giveaway line-up from your last post!! It was a fun surprise :D

  11. Ooooh, I like those boots...super cute!

  12. Thanks, Fallon. Ooh, those Frye boots are lovely - too bad I'm so short I typically have to get "calf-length" boots to wear as my knee-highs. The regular ones sometimes rub against the back of my knee.

Thanks, Liz. Yeah, this isn't really a meal for a super-hot summer day, but it took me like 20 minutes to make it, which is awesome for me.

Thanks for the recs, Reva. I did find a gorgeous pair at Banana a few seasons ago and never got them and still kind of think about them because I'm still in search of the perfect casual brown boots.

Thanks, Kcookski. If this makes you feel any better, or at least gets a laugh out of you, I've put undies on inside out before. More than once (sigh).

Thanks, Mandy! Good to know I'm not the only one searching for boots in July! Thanks for pointing out the Borns, I've got to check them out!

Thanks, Jan. I was the same way with my Uggs! I slipped my feet in them and wanted to wear them all day, despite the heat. Oh comfort ...

Thanks, Marie. It's doesn't get super-cold in the SE either, but I'll be glad I have the Uggs on the days that it does!

Thanks, Elaine - and for creating that gorgeous necklace too!

    Thanks, Ashley!

  13. i really like the pattern on that dress! and it looks great belted. ~joelle

  14. I am an extremely picky eater and I tried the beef and rice recipe (minus the mushroom -- is it is weird that I like cream of mushroom soup without mushrooms?). Anyhoo ... it was great! Thanks so much for it.

  15. I love, love your dress!! And I love the idea of the virtual party. Maybe I'll have to hold one of those in Feb for my blog 1 year =)

I too am getting so excited about different season items!

  16. ha ha I love the idea of a virtual blog party! So fun. I love your dress and the belt is soooo cute.

  17. I adore the dress and those boots look so cute and comfy!

  18. The dress is absolutely beautiful!

btw, you've a very nice figure yourself :)

  19. Thanks for visiting and commenting, Joelle, Ebony, Lisa and Sarah!

Ebony - my BF is the same way. He loves all the things created from the cream of mushroom, but he can't stand mushrooms! But he ate this right up!

Lisa/Sarah - Definitely have virtual parties! What better way to get all your blogee friends to dress up and show off?

    Aw, thanks, Sydney!

Thanks, Tricia. The boots are super-comfy! If it wasn't like a million degrees, I would've worn them for the rest of the day!
