A Rose on Safari

Another mildly hot and kind of ridiculously humid day in the south. If you haven't guessed it yet, I am not a huge fan of the humidity, especially after living in the high desert for a few years. Aside from the seemingly perpetually shiny face, a desire to take a shower every two hours and to lay about doing nothing, my hair tends also to take on a frizzy consistency (yes, Asians get frizzy hair too - or it might just be me ...)

So being kind of a heat wimp, I dressed for comfort and coolness today - my new favorite blouse, which after putting on I realized I would have gladly paid full price for (make more tops like this, Anthro!), and my new favorite jingly belt/modern-day fanny pack (it's got a tiny, mostly useless, zip compartment up front).

Not sure what I'm going to do when it really starts heating up around here. Stay indoors and just stare at the world through my windows?

What do you gals grab to wear when the weather starts really heating up?

Top: Anthropologie Edme & Esyllte - Rose is a Rose
Belt: Anthropologie City Safari
Skirt: Old Navy foldover jersey
Shoes: Nine West leather cut-out slingbacks

  1. I tried that blouse on and was iffy about it clashing with my haircolor. I love it against your skin tones and dark hair. So nice.

What a cool belt! I never noticed it before. Pick pockets don't stand a chance :)

I hate humidity, too. My hair just curls right up. I just go with the flow--low maintenance, natural hair that gets pulled back and tinted moisturizer with minimal make up.

  2. I hear you on the humidity. I live in the mountains now (phew! rarely gets above 80...) but grew up in one of the hottest, most humid cities in the south. I just get cranky when I visit there in the summertime. I remember getting up at 6 am just to run or work out, and it was already hot and humid. I find that thin, jersey dresses work best for me in beating the heat. They're one piece so you're not dealing with several different items and they're very breathable. Patagonia makes the best ones that wick sweat away and allow your skin to breathe.

  3. Your anthropologie belt is adorable! I completely agree about the humidity. When it's hot outside, I usually grab a sundress and flip flops!

  4. Gorgeous top, and that belt is super cute and unique! As for the humidity, I just grin and bear it and wear pants as little as possible and try to stick to skirts and dresses.

  12. Thanks for visiting, Pamela. The pocket on this belt is kind of laughable - you may be able to fit some change into it, maybe. But probably not even a credit card. But I love the belt!

Thanks for the rec about Patagonia, AppGal. I'll need to check them out - breathable fabrics seem the key to survival.

Thanks, Valerie. Ooh, I need some good flip flops - that's a good reminder for the wish list!

Thanks, Julianne. I agree, sometimes all you can do is grin about it.

I can't wait to see you wear this top, Eek!

Thanks, Melanie. Today didn't turn out too too bad, weather-wise. I guess I'm just a wimp!

Thanks so much for the shout-out, Kristin! Much appreciated.

    Thanks for visiting, Cindy!

Aw, sorry to hear, Lesa. But you guys sure luck out with your mild winters.

Thanks, Jan. Word around the blog block is that there may be a whole new sale for later this week, meaning more goodies! Gah! (Good gah or bad gah, not sure yet ...)

Ha ha, Spiffy - I kind of agree with the belt, but couldn't help. It was one of those items I saw and it made me had to have it.

  13. I LOVE that belt, it's super cute!!

When it gets super hot, I usually wear rompers (my newest thing) or J. Crew jersey dresses--they are sooo comfy!

  14. Thanks, Tippy! Ooh, I've been eyeballing some rompers lately, but have been too scared to actually pull the trigger yet. Not sure if I can pull the look off ...
