Click Click Boom

Alright, ladies, I've about had it. I've had my little Canon SD400 for a few years now (it was da b-diggity-omb back in 2007 - 2008?) and though it still serves me well, in camera years it should probably be collecting social security. Plus it's honestly not the most awesome picture-taking camera in the world - though I do like the 10 second delay on the timer (lifesaver!).

So I'm thinking it's about time for an upgrade. I know a lot of bloggers wax poetic about the Nikon D40, but I want to be able to keep my camera compact because I do take it on trips with me and love the idea of having something I can slip into my purse or clutch (and I don't want to break the bank). But I want to be able to also take some quality stills (not just of me - like actual pictures).

Do you lovely ladies have any recommendations on what cameras you gals use and what you would recommend? There are a million and one options out there, so I figured a point in the right direction would help.

Oh yeah, happy 100th post for me! Teeny little milestone check (and giveaway for you gals sticking it out  with me coming soon too).

Have a great weekend - thanks, thanks and thanks!

Yep - I did immediately take this dress off after reviewing my pics this morning and
steamed the heck out of it. But was too lazy to reshoot, so Hello Wrinkles!

  1. I love the color of that dress- I remember seeing it at Anthro! Love the belt too - nautical vibe I'm totally into right now!

  2. Happy 100th post Lisa!! Congrats!

I'm also too lazy to cart an entire dSLR around in my purse, so I use a Leica D-Lux 4 myself. I love the lens and picture quality. However, half the cost of the camera is branding; if you are interested in it, I would recommend the Panasonic Lumix LX3 which has the same lens and is pretty much identical, for half the price.

  3. Awww, the dress is so cute! I totally need a steamer. I hate ironing. I love it with the simple silver necklace and white belt! And your shoooes! I want them.

As for cameras, I use a Canon SD 1500. I think. I don't have it in front of me so I had to look at a close-up of one of my "mirror shots" and try to read what it says backwards, haha... But I do love it! It takes decent pictures, methinks. At least for a point and shoot, it does!

  6. I think I use a canon powershot SD 650- or something like that. It's about 3 years old but I have dropped it more times than is normal and it always recovers immediately!
I also have a canon rebel xsi - 10 months old and not in my possession at the moment because I had to send it back to canon for repair earlier this week.. I believe the more complicated the camera= the higher the likelihood you have problems:(
Although I do love it - I'm a loyal canon customer.
    Happy 100th post!

  7. Woooo! happy 100th post, Lisa! I hit 100 yesterday and didn't even realize it :( lame.
I'm a doof when it comes to cameras- I'm just generally not very tech-savvy, so can't help you there, but what I can say is that your outfit today is bangin'! Love the belt and the vibrant blue!

  9. i don't see any wrinkles. ;) you can't beat an slr for good, crisp pix (canon rebel, baby!), but i find that my little cheapie canon elph is a darn good point-and-shoot (and, i work at a newspaper and that's what some of the REAL photogs have at home).

  11. I really like this dress! The design and the color are absolutely beautiful.

Good luck with your camera searching. Right now I'm using a Kodak V1073. It's compact and has a touchscreen, which I love, but it's not exactly the best at picture taking. I mean, it suffices at outfit photos, but isn't that great at always getting details. I'm thinking about upgrading to a better one in the next year or two. Please keep us updated on what you do because I'm shopping around as well and would love to know your experiences and preferences. :)

  13. Lovely dress! I like the belt too...I think I need to check out Urban for some belts!

I have a Nikon D50 that I use for "good photos" but definitely agree that a little point and shoot is much easier for wardrobe photos! I just bought a Canon SD1300...so far it's doing ok. I like that I can take 3 self-timer photos in a row!

Good luck with your camera search!

  15. I love this!!

I use a Canon SD1100 (borrowed) for the time being. You can push all of the settings to do almost what an SLR can, and I feel like my pictures come out correctly lighted and focused for the most part. I want to upgrade soon too, but haven't done so yet. Let us know what you get!

  16. Congratulations on 100 posts! Your outfit is beautiful. I don't wear belts, but I love this one, perfect with the dress. That's fashion - wish I could look this good!

Well, you know my camera is lousy, so don't get one like it. It's an old Casio Xilim. I also have a Canon that is far, far better. I don't use it much because the Casio is smaller and its battery is easier to recharge, but if I were looking for a new camera now I'd probably stick with Canon.

  17. I love the color of this dress. It's fabulous.. but I have to admit that belt is even fabulous-er. Yah, I just made up a word. :) Happy 100th post sweetie! .. and as for upgrading your camera.. I'm there with you. My point and shoot doesn't capture what I wish it would... so maybe in the near future I'll have my very own DSLR. I'm still debating between Canon and Nikon.

    xx Love & Aloha

p.s. I just realized I wasn't a follower. Shame on me! But that problem has been fixed. hee hee.

  18. Thanks for all your feedback, ladies. Sounds like most of you gals prefer the Canon SD ELPH line for a point-and-shoot - I have to admit mine has been pretty handy, so maybe I just need to "trade" her in for an upgraded model. Plus they're affordable.

I'll be taking a look at some models soon - thanks again!

  19. Ha ha, our posts overlapped - thanks for following, Sharon!

Ooh, I think a SLR or D40 would be top tier stuff for me - I would be able to REALLY take pics then, but I think I'd need to do a whole lot of camera learning first!

  20. What a pretty color! :) And I think I need to get a steamer one of these days. I hate ironing and am so bad at it.

I think my camera is about as old, and it serves my purposes. At one point I was into photography (in school, when it was film and darkroom!) but I don't think my interest warrants getting anything fancier. Of course I envy how great my friends' SLR photos look, but I'm also okay with not seeing my pores in my point and shoot photos. :)

  21. I love the dress with that belt, would never have thought to pair the two! I use a Leica but it's not exactly the most compact camera :T Hopefully one of the other suggestions will work out for you!
